Hatch Black Surround

got fed up looking at the peeling black edging, so scrapped off what i could get at and masked up with fine line tape, then painted it in with Dinitrol Glass Primer.

Dont look too bad now from out side, far from perfect but huge improvment

Not sure what you did? The pictures appear to be of different angles of the hatch. Did you paint the orange part that shows in pictures? Thanks

The orange part is fine line masking tape, masked the edge and painted in a new black surround

When I bought my 968 from RS Barn told me the rear glass was loosening up and he had a glass shop remove the old glass, and then reinstall it. The reason I mention this is my 968 has what appears to be the same type of tape, giving a clean appearance. But the difference is mine has been re-glued.

Rebonding is a major task, not to be taken on lightly.


Getting the glass out of the frame without smashing it is the biggest task, then to get the frame straight and painted or powder coated then bonding the glass in the right place with the correct adhesives.


That would be on my list of "if I absolutely have to do it"

I had my newly purchased 944 hatch glass removed from its frame today by a glass shop. Their tech had worked for Porsches
in the past. It took a little over an hour and cost about $120, well worth it to me. This hatch was loose at the top as are
most 968 hatches. What they told me was the black paint on the window was put there to protect the adhesive from UV rays.On
this hatch the paint ended as it approached the the top of the frame. This meant the adhesive was exposed to uv and
the adhesive had failed. This is the opposite on what i have heard in the past. I had always heard that the paint failed
and allowed the adhesive to lose its grip. The paint on the window fits with what I was told today. Any thoughts?

sounds correct to me, 20 years of UV on the paint or the glue has the same effect, it lets go

I decided to have the glass company install my window in the frame as well. I picked it up about a week ago and it
cost $300 for everything( meaning removing it from the frame and reinstalling it). It was painted, and properly sealed.
I took the hatch to the company rather than the whole car. The glass tech had worked for Porsche and done these before.
If any of you are in SE PA and need this done, I highly recommend Alderfer Glass Company in Telford,PA. I should have gone
to them in the first place and I would have been much better off than I was. All is well that ends well. I also installed
new struts, and took out the hatch locking mechanisms, I cleaned everything and put it all together and for the first
time the hatch opens by itself after hitting the switch by the driver's leg. I was quite pleased.

Alderfer sounds like its almost worth a drive to PA from VA. Anyone know of a shop with experience in Virginia?

I am thinking of making the trip from NY if this guy can fix my hatch. It drives me crazy every time I look at it. Dose any one know some one on Long Island who can fix a hatch? Thanks for any info. I did replace the hatch with one that
seemed better about 5 years ago but it is all delaminated now
