Front License Plate Fix-It Ticket
#1

So Ron (midblue) was "awarded" a fix-it ticket for not having a front license plate in Santa Monica (been there done that, twice). For those that don't want to drill holes, or thread the present "micro" holes, this is a challenge to get resolved. I agreed to help him out and so I worked up a little contraption to mail his way.

This contraption has to be able to mount to the front of the car and be removed (after ticket signed off) with no trace it was even present. So where to start? Included are some pictures of what direction I ended up.

The only thing you need to mount this is access to your center tow point hole, and a small socket wrench.

I don't have a front bumper reinforcement in my car, so the pictures are for illustration purposes only.

Any questions, feel free to ask.

Hey -- that's cool! I wonder if that would also work on a 951....

BTW, I dunno about Santa Monica, but for Los Angeles, you can just send a photograph of your car with plates and pay a lower fee (I found out by calling the number on the ticket). The photo doesn't need to be dated or anything.

Also, if you read the CVC, it doesn't say exactly where you have to mount the front plates -- it just says on the car, visible from the front, placed less than six feet from the ground. So on the dash should make it legal. And then, there's the if the car was issued with only one plate argument....

Eric, that is a great solution. You have just earned your engineering degree from Dave University

Thank you, thank you. Hopefully Ron will give us feedback how it goes. I think he'll be happy with it.

I think it'll work on the 951 as long as the front opening is roughly ~2.00 inches.

From experience not knowing precisely what it states in the CVC, I know that it has to be hard mounted (permanent, or appear to be ), and also know the view can't be obstructed by even a windshield. This excludes the dash as an option. I know some cities allow you to take a picture and send it in, but didn't know LA was one of them. I know there are a bunch of them between LA and SF for those that can't appear. (Costs a lot more than the $10 sign off fee as I recall).

Now accepting grants to pay off those expensive Dave University Loans. When do I walk?

Heck, for this mod you may actually earn a chair on the D.U. board of trustees...

or at least a Vice Chancellor / Dean position, sparing you from that prohibitively expensive tuition

I said it once, I said it a thousand times: of all the s**t tickets given by police

this has to rank as # 1, IMO. From what I can see, AT LEAST 50% of sports

cars do not have a front plate, and while I typically never pay much attention to non-sport vehicles, I'd guess a minimum 10% of those don't have it either. Citations like these reflect a colossal waste of resources and serve only as a

( completely unnecessary ) exercise in frustration for the car's owner.

Too bad that Ron happened to drive by one more cop who failed to get laid for a while..

At any rate, I've been playing the license plate on the dash game and haven't got a ticket yet (crossing my fingers) and I've been parking at the same spot where a meter-maid gave me a fix-it before.

Just know if you park at LAX, you are pretty certain to get a front plate ticket if you are missing yours. The specifically patrol for that.

Eric, you can take your graduation walk anytime. HB Pier is open from 6 AM to 10 PM

Another perfect use for the Rustech Plate Holder!

We don't use front plates in Arizona. But where do those little plugs come from that hide the mounting holes?

Anyone from MA know what the law is here regarding front plates? Do they really ticket for that? Is it acceptable to place on the dash? I'm thinking of removing mine and going with the bumperplugs.

Ditto for SFO -- another place where I've gotten one of those tickets.

I don't know about the actual law in MA, but I used to keep my 944 parked on the street in Boston w/o front plate (around Newbury street, where metermaids hunt freely) and never got a fix-it ticket.

Yes, you can get a ticket.....but you can prob gp a few years before an officer would even notice (unless he was looking for a reason to pull you over)

What I have done on my g35 coupe is keep it in the trunk. "Oh sorry officer, I was just snapping some pictures and forgot to put it back on! Let me do that right now"

I see an opportunity to make serious money here, Eric - set up booths at Airports

( we know at least LAX and SFO are prime choices ) where you can RENT your temporary plate holders

Oh, ... the owner would need to have the plate as well. Crap, there goes another idea.

Suction cups, velcro, or hanging the padded plate with floss would be good enough for a parking lot. Mine is designed to drive with, but would be an overkill for a parking application.

I got a fixit ticket for not front plate as well, and have no front holes.

Anyone know if someone has jury rigged something, or whether someone has the solution posted in the first item of this thread? For some reason, I can't see the pics for the first post.

Michigan only has rear plates......and the DMV actually works pretty well here. Never wait more than 15 min even with long line.

Can't see pics form original post....(even with spyware and firewall off)
