Anyboy ever use Philips X-treme power bulbs?
#1

A guy on the BMW E90-92 forum recently posted a link which recommended the Philips X-treme Power halogen headlight bulbs as a significant upgrade over the stok bulbs, but he didn't have any direct personal experience. There isn't much on the web about these bulbs, but what's there seems to be pretty positive. Anybody have any experience with these bulbs they could share? I'm looking for them more for my wife's 328i, as I think the stock 968 lights are fine, but then, I'm not much of a connoisseur. But if I get the for the 328i, and we like them, I might consider them for the 968 as well. Thanks.

I've always liked PIAA's except that they burn out within a year.

the best upgrade i have found for the stock headlights is to all but turn off the dash lights - a new windshield helped alot too, as did clear lenses on the headlights (mine were fogged)

BIG difference

I've suggested to my wife that she try turning down the dashboard lights (she keeps them on full blast), but she won't hear of it. She like the lights bright, and she's not budging on this one. Oh, well, gotta pick your battles.

The car's just a year old, and is always garaged, so the headlight lenses are clear, as is the windshield.

Are you guys basically saying that, as with so many other over-hyped mods (cold-fusion-powered spark plugs, tornado intake thingamajig, etc.), these types of "super bulbs" don't produce a measurable improvement? Wouldn't surprise me, but the bulbs sounded somewhat promising.

yes, and no

what they provide in our car is more glare - it's more light, yes, but the wrong kind of light - the headlights in our cars, when working correctly, are very bright - those super bulbs don't do anything good for them

now, in a car with bad lighting, like the projectors in our denali, the silverstars i am running make a very positive difference

the next time you guys are driving at night together, have her turn them down, wait a few minutes for her eyes to adjust, and then have her start looking at things at the edge of the headlight pattern - then turn the dash lights back up and watch her freak out when those things disappear - tell her "that could have been a child"

I agree Flash, the Silverstar bulbs make a big difference. Unfortunately they don't have a long life.

Flash,

Do you go through more driver side headlight bulbs than passenger? In mine its about 2-1.

i've gone through 3 sets - the first two didn't last long at all, one popping right after the other on each set - the third set is still going strong (knock wood)
