968 Gathering
#1

There are about a dozen 968 owners in the Albuquerque area, lets get together with the Roadrunner Region, PCA this month at the monthly social "Meet & Greet" at Mimi's Cafe, right off I-25 on the West side, 4316 The 25Way NE. Saturday, 16 January around 10:00 for Brunch. I have a friend who is bringing his 968 up from El Paso to be with us. Sam Thomas recently returned from Germany and is seeking some "Porsche Love" to share. Please join Patti and I to make Sam and his wife feel welcome! RSVP to: Dennis Chamberlain at: dennis@dcphotoartistry or (505) 554-1815

Dan, so far there are 11 968 owners coming this Saturday. Should be a blast with the rest of the Roadrunner Region Regulars (usually 25 - 35 come to the Socials). We are expecting sunshine with temperature in the mid 40's. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

Correction to my original post: "Sam Thomas" is actually: Dan Thomas, sorry Dan. Wonder who I was thinking about? Go Cowboys! Bob Blackwell.

Bob,
I've got all the parts ready for the Big Red swap but now time is the critical factor. I received my RSB braided brake/clutch line kit (thanks Pete!!), got the calipers refinished and rebuilt, rotors cleaned up, bias valve from Sunset (thanks Luke!!), Power Bleeder and Blue fluid from Paragon, new bleeders too, but I just don't have the time to undertake the project. Arghhh!!!

It is unfortunate but Pam and I will have to drive the Explorer on this trip. I've got to help my 80 year old aunt around her 5 acres over this long weekend and we need the room in the Explorer to haul some "stuff" up and back. Besides, with the 968 brakes being in the condition they're currently in, I'm not willing to risk driving 600+ miles across the vastness of west Texas and southern NM without ADAC.

We'll most certainly see you on Saturday but just not in the black car. I'm broken hearted. I was really looking forward to some awesome pictures with you all. There will be another opportunity in a couple of months. We'll talk more in person. I can't wait to see you guys!

Best,
Dan

PS- Pete, if you can ever make it down here with your hammer, give me a holler. I'll supply all the grilled Black Angus, Hatch chillies and adult beverages you can handle. My treat!!! We'll even pick you up at the airport and put you up for a couple of nights! Come on down!!!

No sweat Dan, drive what you need to but drop by and visit anyway. There will be lots of interesting people and a few interesting Porsches too, Bob Blackwell.

A great time was had by all. Thanks for coming to all those who attended the 968 Gathering today at Mimi's Restaurant. A patriotic turnout of Red, White and Blue Porsche 968 Coupes! Some pictures were taken and maybe they will post them here. Bob Blackwell.

Best I can do is my 968, I am an American, and I have a victory flag on my hood..........................I don't take a lot of pictures. Maybe either Dan Thomas, Derek Sopko, or Dennis Chamberlain will post a few. They all took some pictures of our cars and participants today. The weather cooperated with bright sun, no wind and 53 degrees F. Bob Blackwell.

Very dry indeed, our humidity yesterday was 12 percent. I shop out at the Kirtland AFB Commissary frequently. Used to get my haircut out there too, but my favorite barber opened a shop off base, so now I pay a bit more and get it cut with the same barber. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

Bob,
I'm sorry I missed you. I had to work Saturday, so I couldn't make it. I didn't realize that the meet and greet was going to have so many 968s until now. I will offer to host the next ABQ 968 gathering. Maybe a ride through the Jemez Mountains and a potluck? Or a drive and burger at Los Ojos. Yum.

I'm taking the car to Russ on Tuesday. I'm going to have him flush the brakes and do a compression test. Certain jobs I can't stand doing and bleeding brakes is one of them.

I'm also available for a drive any time. See you at the Frostbite series?

Kurt

Thanks for posting the picture Jay. The white, 94 coupe belongs to Derek Sopko and had only 36,000miles. The red, 93 coupe belongs to Phyllis Doering who is the original owner. The blue, 93 coupe is "ol blue" and you have probably heard more than you want to about my car. Another white, 92 coupe showed up and it belongs to Jon Boldt. His is a very early model (VIN ending in: 170) and it was very interesting to note the differences: sunken front porsche badge, gloves imprinted on the under hood glove box, etc. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.
