I'd be interested to know what kind of vehicles would result from a FIAT \Chrystler merger. When I was in Italy last year there seemed to be a real profusion of small fun to drive turbo diesel sedans including the Alfa that my brother had leased during the year that he lived there. Hey, I had a Fiat 124 coupe, fun little car, but it would have been a lot more fun with a Chrysler engine in it [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif[/img]
For that matter it would have helped if I had a 440 or a 340...or any Hemi in my Maserati Merak as well.

The immediate item of interest for both Fiat and Chrysler is the Fiat 500, for obvious reasons. They need to update the bumpers for the US standards, but other than that it is ready to go as is.

The article mentions that this is the car that will bring traffic to the show rooms. Based on looks alone, the 500 appears to be nothing special IMO. The Alfa Mito is nicer looking car.

Actually The entire Alfa line up is pretty nice. But I'm often bias when it comes to rare cars. The Brera for example is one hot hatchback.

I was this close to looking into buying a Challenger. Then I saw how much it weighed [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif[/img]

If I was buying a hybrid/electric car I'd give Toyota and Honda the finger and buy something american.

If there are any of you considering a Prius or Civic hybrid, look at the Chevy Volt. Once it officialy comes out I think it will trump the hybrids.

Rumor has it the Volt will cost around $40K. You'd have to be VERY patriotic, or have $10/gal gas, for that to pay off in less than about 50 years...

what a rip-off - 100 K ! to each his own, but I don't care how fast or how environment-saving that thing is, and even if they paid me 100k I wouldn't take it ! looks like one of those toy cars you'd give as a birthday gift to a 5 year old girl to drive around the cul-de-sac .
there are so many of them in this area ( co HQ is.. or was anyway..in the town where I live ) you can't swing a cat w/o hitting one - you see more of them than you see boxsters .

A few other Car & Driver quotes about the Tesla:

"As in an Elise, the Tesla's seats consist of little more than black paint on the firewall."

Of course, all of these things could also be said of the Elise (Who cares?! The Elise is still my dream of a dedicated track car). I just thought they were funny. Overall, the Tesla seems to be an impressive feat of automotive engineering. If they could only get the price down (and the practicality up), Telsa may have something as gas prices undoubtedly escalate over the next few years. Maybe the Big 3 could learn a lesson or two from these guys.

All the material sourced here?
All the money earned stays here?
A 75% 'made in America' car?
A 51% 'made in America' car?

Or are you buying American because someone says 'Ford' is American?
