Where is your oil pressure?
#1

I was reading over the factory service manual and it states that standard operating pressure can range from 2bar to 8bar. My oil pressure before my knock and oil change was 2.1-2.3ish at idle to 4.9-5bar at throttle. Now im in the 1.8ish area peaking at 4bar max. Oil on the dipstick is completely full. At cold start im at 4.8 bar where as before I was planted at 5. Not sure what previous owner used, but im at 10W40 right now. Where is yours?

no idea how they could tell 8 bar - gauge only goes to 5, but ok

with fresh oil, 5 plus cold - 4.8-5 hot - 3 cold idle - 2.75 hot

tired oil drops to 4.5 and 2.25 hot

@ 100K and no idea how it was treated for most of that, hot 2 to 4 bars idle to run. Cold add .5 to 1 bar. Had a 944 before with no idea how many miles it really had but engine was real clean and showed 160K. It ran at 4.6 bars and idled at 3. All on 15W50 Mobil 1.

Running 10W-40 syntho, I get 2.5 at idle warm, dropping to 2 hot after some hard running. Over 3 grand it usually pins the gauge. Unlike the 8 valve 944's, the 968's use more oil volume to activate the vario cam and don't forget the piston squirters, which also use some oil pressure. Kinda like a deliberate oil pressure leak.

So when you guys start your cars in the morning or whatnot, your oil pressure is at 3, going to 5 when driving. Mine is pinned when I start it until it gets warm...kind of how I determine when its warmed up! I have started cleaning my grounds...no real improvement yet although I haven't blown another window fuse yet..so thats good.

Edit for clarity - When I start my car cold, I go straight to 5 bar, never drops until about 15 minutes of driving, then at idle it goes to 2-3bar, throttle at 3k 4-5 bar with the engine fully warm, 1.8-2bar to 4bar. Sounds about normal from the sounds of you other guys. Old oil was pretty thick, like 20W50 which would result in higher oiil pressure. Car goes in tomorrow, so I will know forsure what my bill is going to be .

before the CM filter my pressure was at 5 bar on start and around 3bar or barely over that at idle after it warmed up, but always back to 5 bar when the rpm went even a couple of hundreds past idle ( so anything over 1k..) essentially when driving, regardless of how warmed up the engine was..

with the CM filter, I still go to 5 bar on start up, but drop to about 2.2-2.5 bar when it warms up at idle, and again when the car is warmed up if I give it a bit of gas and the rpm is pat idle it goes to about 4.5 bar, until I hit 2000 rpm or above, at which point it hits the 5 bar.

running mobil one 15 50

p.s. not sure about oil pressure, but orphanowner's videoclip might impact blood pressure bar readings for some of us ( uh.. I mean some of you..) older guys..
