sticky clutch on my new ride

hey guys, I got my '92 coupe a few days ago and I am in total bliss!



On the maintenance side, I have the 'sticky clutch' problem -- the clutch does not return back up 100% but sticks at the beginning of the free play of the pedal. It sounds exactly like the thread below

according to records provided with the vehicle, slave cylinder was replaced in 2001 and master cylinder in 2004. Maybe the slave needs to be replaced again?



Is it dangerous to drive the car like this? Didn't think so, but I am going to check the hoses tonight and perhaps order up some replacement parts.



How much time would be saved if I bought one of those Motive power bleeders? I have to do the brakes too so I just might get one.

Yes on the Motive. Anyone who has used it will say, "Once you go pressure bleed, you'll never go "presser" bleed." <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />



So get it bled well first, then if it still sticks, try adjusting the push rod a little longer or dial back the preload on the booster spring.



There is no danger in driving this way. It is just annoying,

thanks, I really appreciate the advice. It sure *is* annoying.



Just purchased a power bleeder. New brake pads and clutch work will be pending delivery, now that I know I won't kill myself. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I'm also in the East Bay. Well... to be precise, my stuff is in East Bay these days while I could be anywhere among SF, LA, NY and Boston at any given time. But if you ever need anything -- say in terms of tools or a lending hand, give me a hollar!

okay, the brake pads provided by the PO -- he was going to do the brakes and drove the car only 400 mi in two years -- they don't look like anything special.



I am wondering if I should buy some better pads?



They are the same ones I helped my friend put on his BMW 325, 'PBR' brand "Deluxe Plus Organic' (WTF? No preservatives?) They do mention 'sporty roads requiring aggressive braking'.



How important is a top-of-the-line brake pad?

The trouble may have a simple answer.



On SEVERAL of the cars that Pete at RS Barn has seen recently (including mine) the inspection port plug for the clutch fork was missing and the area needed to be lubricated with silicon spray and the plug replaced (about $7).



Mine had been missing for a while and Pete lubricated the area several times before it returned to 100%.
