So recently the car has intermittently not been cranking when the key is turned until the clutch pedal is jiggled a bit. Last time it was started, I actually had to release the clutch to get it to crank. I'm guessing that there is a clutch pedal ignition interlock switch, similar to the cruise control disconnect switch, or maybe the cc switch does both. Can anyone corroborate this?

Unless your clutchpedal is tweaked somewhere there should not be a switch installed.

I can start mine with or without the clutch pedal pressed down.

Not sure I understand the question, but there is a safety switch that is supposed to prevent the car from starting until the clutch pedal has been released.



Here's a photo and you can connect the two wires to bypass the switch (for testing purposes ONLY - the car will jump forward if the transmission is in a gear and the car might continue driving forward if the engine starts)

Ours is the version as delivered to the USA. It's still the original color...midnight blue.

Uk cars do not have a switch, had to install one for the CC

Replaced the cruise control interlock switch but the intermittent not cranking problem persists.  On the wiring diagram the clutch switch doesn't appear to be in the starter circuit anyway, but it was worth a try. The car now starts without depressing the clutch pedal, which it never did before. The question is, where is the switch?

Sounds like an intermittent thing like my cruise control working every other time I check my fluids and close the hood.    :angry:

Follow up 90% solution: installed a new battery with higher CCA (cold cranking amps). I gave up on trying to find a clutch starter interlock switch. But the newer more powerful battery cranks on the first or second try every time so far. It is not the battery listed for the car, sits a little taller in the battery tray, just fits.

DAK, please make sure the battery terminals aren't touching the hood (bonnet). Eventually, they can wear through the paint and ruin your day.

Several years ago I bought a new DEKA battery at Batteries+.  When I closed my hood I noticed the hood wasn’t sitting flush by the battery. I opened it up and sure enough, the battery was too tall. They looked it up again and the other listing they had was correct. Only about 3/16-1-4” in height between them, but one fit the other didn’t. 

 

FWIW, this is the correct one. 

   

 

I’ve noticed through several trials and errors anything but the actual 700 CCA Group 91 battery is asking for trouble.

There is no switch, they are only on push button start cars
