Starting Issue
#1

I have been having an issue where after getting out of my car and then getting back in several minutes later, the car makes a loud click noise when I turn the key in the ignition. I turn the key again and the car starts right up. This has only happened twice in the last week but I am concerned that this is the beginning of a larger issue. I have never had it happen yet from a cold start.

I recently purchased the car about a month ago and have had no problems. I am not familiar with all the ins and outs of the car but supposedly it had a full inspection and tune up before I received it.

The only thing that I have done with the car recently is add a ProMax 7100 chip and the airbox mod in the 9magazine issue. I wondered if I might need a new DME Relay or is there something else I should be looking at? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Does the loud click sound like it is coming from underneath the car? If so it could be a signal that the starter soleniod is on the brink of going out. There have been cases where the starter self engages at random times even when the key is out, so be sure to park in neutral until you get this sorted. The DME relay controls the fuel pump, so if you had cranking but no fire, or random shutdowns, then replace the DME relay.

Reman starters are about $95 at Sunset. Hit this linkk: http://www.sunsetimports.com/porscheatcost.php

Griemann,

Thanks so much for the advice. I assumed it might be something with the starter but I am not that familiar yet with the 968. The sound seemed like it was coming from the front of the car but I will pay closer attention when and if it happens again. For now, I will definitely keep in in neutral until I get it sorted out.
