SS Clutch line
#1

So I had a productive weekend filled with rotors, pads, SS brake lines, and lots of brake fluid. To finish things up on Sunday I installed my SS clutch line. It was a big pain getting the new line attached to the master cylinder because there is no room for hands while trying to screw in the end. I took my time and got everything hooked up.

I bled all the brakes and was about to bleed the clutch when I notice dripping coming from above...the clutch master cylinder. With the motive power bleeder hooked up and pressurized, there is a small leak around the new clutch line where it screws into the master cylinder. For those familiar with the line, the leak seems to be between the adapter and master cylinder, not the adapter and line. It is not cross threaded and I followed the instructions (I think) and didn't over tighten anything, but it is leaking. Any thoughts? Did I over tighten? I could probably wrench on it tighter but the instructions say multiple times not to over tighten any connection.

Any help is appreciated. I'd like to get my car back on the road this week when I get new tires Wednesday.

Thanks,

-A

Had a similar experience but I didn't do the install, my mechanic did. The Bad news- The hose did indeed split. The good- after the hose split Rs rushed out another at no charge. See thread below as there is a pic on post #10

hmm. I certainly don't think I tightened it enough to split it like that. I didn't have time to pull it off when I noticed. It started getting dark and I was pissed, so it will have to wait till tomorrow.

The leak seems like it is between the adapter and master, not the line and adapter like where your's split.

yeah, sounds like something different is taking place. I'd be interested to hear what turns up when you get back in there and sort things out.

i don't understand why people keep saying it's a pain - it's only a pain if you don't move the stuff above out of the way first - there is really plenty of room once you do - i've done a few of these now, and it never causes me any grief at all - snip the tie wraps, unplug the vacuum line, move the stuff aside, and away you go

anyway

it's pipe thread, so i presume you did not make a simple mistake, like using any teflon tape or sealant

you do have to tighten it down like you would any other fitting

email me your phone number (not a pm please), and i'll try to walk you through it or figure out what the problem is tomorrow
