RS BARNS CAT BACK GROUP BUY
#21

I confirm my intention of buying one RS BARN cat-back exhaust, as soon as I get the shipping quote from Pete and costs are reasonable.

Bye

Greaat! The addition of UGO968CAB, pending shipping quote, brings us back up to (6) systems; which brings the group buy pricing down to $629. If we can pick up several more, we may have a chance at getting the group buy down to $599 which would be great.

Currently committed:

1. Ernie Rossi

2. Mark

3. Bruce Ward

4. Bibbetson

5. Porsche

6. UGO 968 CAB

The addition of Ed Russo to the list brings up to (7) potential buyers of Pete's system. If we can pick up two more between now and when I close this thread down on Sunday, we'll qualify our group buy for the $599 Pete has quoted.

This revised list now includes:

1. Ernie Rossi

2. Mark

3. Bruce Ward

4. Bibbetson

5. Porsche

6. Ugo968Cab

7. Ed Russo

There were a couple of guys on the fence pending a freight quote to get the system to them. We'll wait and see.

Ernie,

I just checked into shipping. it would run between $32.00 to $38.00 maximum in the continental U.S. That also includes insurance.

Pete

BTW, The cost is the same if you order a Header and complete system. Due to the size of the package the extra weight doesn't add to cost.

Can I save on shipping since the car is at your shop? <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Pete,

Could we get some prices on at least a bolt on cat if not the header as well for this group buy?

Pete,

Bruce brings up a good point. With many of our cars approaching 90K miles, many of them are probably in need of a new cat. It would be a shame to put on your exhaust downstream of a plugged cat!

So, can you recommend and source a cat that is a bolt onto the OEM header and which will accept your cat back?

Also, can you comment on how your cat back will work with a high flow cat? Or, are we back into the "too little" back pressure issue?

Pete,

remember that i need a shipping cost quotation to Italy of the cat-back in order to participate to this group buy.

We'll be shutting down this group buy effort in three more days. If anyone is considering a purchase of the RS Barns cat back system, I would encourage you to jump on board at this time. We need only 2 more parties to get the system pricing down to $599, which is very good.

The manufacturer has indicated that shipping and insurance costs to get the exhaust to you would be approximately $40. If you elect to include the RS Barns header and/or cat with your system, shipping does not go up. Pete should also be working on shipping costs to Italy for Ugo968Cab.

Regards,

Ah!!! Under the weather. Also my kids sitter has been off 4 days. I have to ship out at 3:30 each day

I quoted a maximum of $38.00 shipping US. I need to go back and figure out new package size to Italy. That wouldn't include Header pricing lke U.S.

I also have Header/cat pricing to post. should be tomorrow.

What does everyone think about keeping the group buy open until Pete can do a before and after dyno on a otherwise stock 968? I believe that once that dyno shows an actual power gain stopping all the "no gain or some loss" comments that more will join in on the buy?

Would defintely attract some more interest, for myself as well.

I have no problem with that. I know he has some dyno's but they might be for header back.

I think it would be great if this were held off for a little bit as Bruce has suggested. Pete emailed me some dyno stuff but IIRC it combined the exhaust mods with intake mods and chipping, and compared that combination to a stock setup. I lost the files when I destroyed my system disk.

How would you like me to check this?

1. Stock car

2. Aibox mod alone

3. Airbox mod and chip

4. Airbox mod and various chips?

This gets a little crazy

The cat back works great with the header, airbox mod and chip.

So it wouldn't work as a stand alone?

To me there isn't any controversy or power loss. Several people who have purchased immediatley posted with enthusiasm.

My priorities are to get the cylinder head testing and chip developing finished. I'm estimating $1800 in dyno and shop time.

If things go smooth and less expensive and there is time I may consider this. It would cost about $500.00 to prove that an exhaust system that works with the other mods works as a stand alone with very little power gain.

So the answer is I'm not sure.

Pete

BTW anybody got any tylenol?

Pete, you know that I am more interested in the Stage 3 head testing.

Although I do believe that dyno testing the exhaust on a stock 968 will silence the doubters and bring more buyers into the group buy.

I look forward to the low flow cat and header pricing for the group buy.

Thanks

Pete,

You can always use my car for the stock no chip, no air box mod, catback only test if you wish. I'll split the dyno costs with you. That said, your time is probably better spent on the other stuff you need to work on.

pete - don't sweat it - i don't think there is any controversy either

you've never claimed power increase with the catback alone - in fact, you've previously said there weren't any gains that showed up on a dyno

no worries - no aftermarket cat-back exhaust system has been able to show direct increases on a dyno on a 968 via any credible data - no surprises there - no worries either - that's not the point

i know everybody is all about dyno charts, but most people don't even know how to read them, and even fewer how to interpret and use them - it's definitely a slippery slope when you start issuing data

for those who don't know, just because it does not show up on a dyno, that does not mean that there are not performance increases to be had there - less weight and freer flow means a very real performance gain - a good example of how this can be true is the aluminum flywheel - nothing shows up on the dyno, but the car is a whole lot faster - clearly the testimonies from others support the concept that the car feels faster with the RS BARN cat back

better tone also means increased fun factor, though purely psychological in nature - but, does that matter? more fun is more fun

it's priced better than the B&B, makes the same improvements as any well made system, is better made than the B&B, is a direct bolt-on, and should have a smoother tone than other systems

is it perfect? maybe not - is there one out there that is any better? no - this is the best game going - what would any more data prove? it would only raise the cost of future units

the car is more fun to drive with it than without - i don't see any real downsides here

pete - i have the extra jumbo size bottle of tylenol - i'll be happy to share

please don't let this banter deter you from forward progress and group pricing on the high flow cat and header

bruce - "low flow" is for toilets - "high flow" is for exhaust
