Gutting my cat
#1

My car has a M150 package which deletes O2 sensor and the cat section is reconditioned from factory so that it does not contain the reactive materials used in a real cat so that it can be used with leaded gas. Here's my issue:

My cat is too old and is all broken on the inside and it has blocked exhaust flow and sometimes my car won't go above 5000 rpms due to this. I would like to gut it on the inside and reconnect.

My main concern is: Due to the high compression if this engine, do the exhaust valves fail due to the lack of back pressure due to this? Have you guys used your cars with a straight pipe instead of a cat and no failing exhaust valves?

If so I might have to use a resonator instead to maintain back pressure.

Please advise

Luis,

We run cars with S Barn and no cat. I've also seen stock headers with cat cut out and a striaght pipe welded in. I would recommend welding in a

2 1/2' pipe vs gutting the cat. The body is nearly 5" and you could/will get some sort of weird reversion. The resonator is what provides back pressure.
