Why did you decide to go that route? The spring-centered disk should go a long way toward reducing the rattle, from what I've heard.

I agree, but Pete recommended the solid disk over the spring for now, as its the only one he's selling.
He mentioned some issues with cracking on the fiber and kevlar spring disks, and their reduced overall life expectancy.
The solid kevlar has a much longer life even though it has the buzz from 2200 to 2800 on the downshift.
Mine is a daily driver, and I'm getting used to mitigating the buzz.
Sometimes I forget and it reminds me quickly! But driveability, WOW.

Interesting... I wasn't aware of the problems with the spring-centered disk.

we aren't totally happy with the spring disk - we had a couple of cars that did not react exactly like we wanted (mine being one of them) and wanted to go back to the drawing board, rather than take any chances on others having problems

Sounds like a smart approach. I understand the clearances are very tight. My clutch seems to be in good shape, but with over 107K miles, it's only a matter of time. What's your prognosis for eventually working out the issues with the spring-centered disk?

tell me about it - i did my clutch 6 times, swapping out disk after disk, in an attempt to figure out one that took care of it completely

springs won't work completely - you trade one issue for another, varying in amount by the stiffness of spring - same problem with the other companies that make them too

it's not nearly as bad though with the 17lb rs barn unit as it is with the 12 lb fidanza

i have an idea, but it's going to be WAY down the road if i ever get to it

Flash, can you elaborate on the 'did not react exactly like we wanted'. Mine has become very jerky recently when cold and makes a bit of a 'graunching' sound - makes the car judder slightly when engaging the clutch. Need to take a look at it to see if i have another problem.

we don't really want to go into it here - there aren't that many disks out there, and we'll keep our eyes peeled for any issues that arise - so far it has been fine other than the 2 cars mentioned

is yours one of ours?

if so, send me a phone number in a PM

Just wanting to follow up for everyone.
I have the RS Barn solid kevlar disk/flywheel and last night I let her loose, driving hard, shifting at 6500 to 7000.
I gave everything awhile to settle in first, probably not necessary, but to be safe.
I'm impressed, who knew you could go that fast without boost!!!
The rattle is becoming less of an issue as I become better at accommodating it.
The improvement in driveability is astounding, in all types of driving.
I do not find any problems in traffic, starting from a full stop, nothing negative to report, in fact I find this setup superior in every way.
I wish I had done this a long time ago.
Only thing left to say is if a little rattle from time to time is an issue for you, don't bother, but otherwise dive in the water is fine.
Thanks Pete

I think the rattle only bothers people who really wanted a Cadillac.

bugs me quite a bit if i let it - not when i am sporting around, but every time i come home and have to be at that rpm to go up my street, slow for the speed bump, speed up again, yada yada - makes me crazy in parking lots too

but, still worth it to me - the car is so much more fun to drive i hardly pay attention to it anymore
