Replacing brake pads (for beginners)
#81

.....and then when I thought things where under control...replacement part on the way now...Today my garage door motor failed. Now I have to order new gear for it and install that first before I can get to the 968 brakes....I swear.....It's the never ending story!!

Hey, youse guyz.. have I not mentioned here ( and several times ! ) that in spite of all that Maserari offers, I still prefer driving the 968 ?! In fact , it's not even close. Yes it's stunning, it's faster, has one of the most incredible exhaust notes on the planet , it's more luxurious, has a lot more tech features ( yuk, I could not care less for that crap ) and yet, no way, no how does it become " one with the driver " and give you the feedback and sensation the 968 does .

Same thing with British cars ..I was considering an Aston Martin DB 9 before I bought the Maserati , drove it for an entire week, and it only made me realize that while they are perfectly fine as daily drivers, they are not FUN drivers like a 968 is. I do realize that being a much , much lighter car vs the other two contributes to that , but I've driven even lighter cars than the 968 and they still did not have that special bonding effect our cars provide ... maybe Miatas or RX7s may feel similar to some, I have driven both , albeit very briefly , and they were " fun " but for me still a missing a lot that might have put them even in the same league with the 968.

There you go, we covered diversity without necessarily offending any of the two other ethnicities ( Italian or British ) .

While I enjoy the visceral feel of the 968 track car and the queen I must say i have been delightfully surprised by the 997.2. It may well be the instant power or depending upon the setting getting slammed back into the seat. It brings a smile much like the 968. It sucks on ice, actually quite petrifying. I've not had it really on snow yet although it's a 4s with snows and should be ok. Perhaps I just have a more open mind!! The difficult thing is the almost overwhelming desire to mod it and get more power. All three 968's have been heavily modded. Heck I'm still fiddling with the track car. Big reds are next and oil coolers. Max awaits patiently. The trailer is still snowed in.

Thanks Jay....I was getting worried about the drifters. They are probably getting bored while waiting for brake replacement news. I don/t blame them. However it's coming. First I must fix my garage door gear and then on to brakes......that is when I get all the "right" parts...Should be here by next week,

Yeah, apologies for diverting off topic, but in my defense, it's ALWAYS Bob's (RAP) fault for egging me on . ;-) :-) . Kidding aside, since everyone claims brake jobs ( pads replacement only ) is a piece of cake , I have considered doing that once myself just to say I did some work on my car other than changing a battery or a fuse / relay, or , the starter ( which was my biggest DIY job to date :-) ) , but after reading about all the things which if not perfect can affect the effort and frustration that could come with it , I'll let the professionals or at least the advanced amateurs do that for me .

Actually I’m just waiting for the door to be fixed and thought I’d add some filler. Just to help us make it thru. Has anyone changed brakes in a Maserati? Razor blades Jay?

Sorry to keep you waiting for the upcoming brake job. I did get the garage parts today and they where installed. Now I just have to adjust the up and down movement. I stopped working at 3PM. It is cold and raining and we expect snow level at 1000 feet tonight. Will continue on adjustments Sunday........So boys get ready for all the surprises a brake job can throw at me!!

In addition to the words of wisdom photo Jay posted, also remember the two " laws " of the workshop :

1. Any tool when dropped will immediately roll to the most inaccessible spot

2. As soon as your hands become coated with grease, your nose will start itching or you'll have to go pee .

Have fun with the brake job though, let's hope that no gremlins get in the way and the job will be as easy as can be .

True . I was thinking that would definitely be the solution to the second issue .

And latex gloves are now endorsed by the US government ; that's what the WH doctor used for Trump's recent rectal exam, where he found Sean Hannity and the entire Fox News crew stuck in there right behind Sean ...

and, of course, a bolt was tight enough just before you tightened it a bit more and it broke.

Finally, uncommon complications to common problems are more common than common complications to uncommon problems.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.....Garage door now fixed and last missing brake part should be here in three days. The Amethyst Dazzler will get her maintenance very soon. I will post pictures of the progress and setbacks as they occur.

Here she is with the Pacific Ocean in view.

Speaking of setbacks!!!.....Huge storm rolling in from the Pacific...There is no way I can work on this car until it's over. Flooding everywhere around us and 38F in the garage..........be patient...I promise I will get to it.!

We may all need to mod our 968s into amphibious vehicles at the rate these storms have been going lately . Still far better than the east and mid west polar vortex experience , but for us it pretty much paralyzes the entire area and yup things like non-urgent work on cars will just have to wait until more critical things get done first ..

Water supply should be good for a while. Snow great and heavy in the mountains.

QUESTION: I keep getting the wrong brake pad sensor. I did get a correct one for the front with one sensor on each brake pad. The second one had only one sensor for one pad. I returned it and asked for the two pad sensor......now they send me the same one sensor wire....Am I missing something here....they both came in a box with a product number PWS201 from Intermotor...........Any clues?
