removal of front inner fenders

My 968 has numerous small dents on the top of the front fenders, probably from lazy mechanics/owners who didn't cover them before working under the hood. My dent removal man couldn't get access to remove these without removing the inner fenders, which I agreed to and then call him back over. Can anyone give me some advanced info on how difficult these are to remove?

It all depends on how good your dent guy is and his collection of dent tools. I had some work done and was sure the fender wells would have to come out. I was amazed at the outcome. Unfortunately he didn't let me watch, but convinced me the wells weren't moved...

You may want to get another estimate.

If you're talking about the plastic fender wells... It's pretty easy. Car has to be up so you can remove the wheel. The nuts holding the liner on are evident and numerous. Keep track of which came off of what and you'll be okay.



Does one need to remove anything more than the plastic liner? I ask, as I have the same type of dent-correction needs.

Yeah, I bet we all do! When I asked the paintless dent removal guys who came to the 968 celebration in Washington, D.C. last spring, they said it is an "optical illusion" caused by the metal flakes in the metallic paint. they didn't even want to try and get out my "wavy ripples" on my front fenders. Must be a common problem, I've noticed some really small indentations that I want rewoved too. Don't dare try it myself.

The 968 Celebration guy was just going to drill a hole to fix the dent, and the insert a plastic plug rather than removing the plastic liner.

I had a dent on the top of the passenger fender made by the standard method.

I bought a dent removal tool that uses a hot glue gun and "pops" out the dent with a puller.

After 2 or 3 tries the dent is all but gone. I can still see it if I am in the right light, but if you do not know that it is there you can't see it.

It may work for most of your dents.

Dave, dentless paint removal is what a low-life once did to my one-week-old Firebird--poured brake fluid down the sides. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />



I discussed access to the front fender dents with my dent removal guy and we mutually decided I'd rather R&R the inner fenders than drill and plug holes. And one hole would not be sufficient to cover the entire length of my fenders/dings. They're also too well defined to pull out with a suction device.



I may not get to this for a few weeks, but will report the results when they happen.
