Rear Wiper Arm Removal
#1

I have looked and looked at the arm on the rear wiper on my coupe, and I cannot figure out how to remove it from the motor shaft.    Can someone tell me the trick to do this job?

If I remember correctly, there is a cap at the base of the wiper arm that you have to remove, then undo the nut underneath.

If you are not removing the wiring for the rear wiper, make sure to zip tie it up and away. I didn't and the plastic connectors kept getting smashed in the weatherstripping when I closed the rear hatch.

yup, the small segment at the base of the wiper is a lift-up "cap",

Guys,

Thanks for the feedback.  The part I do not understand is how to remove the cap?  Is there some trick to lifting it up, some sort of catch mechanism?  I have stared at this cap for a long time, and cannot figure out how to remove it?

I wish I had kept the rear wiper assembly but threw everything away ( both of them ) after removing them from my cars... However, if my memory serves me , you can lift the cap without using any tools to pry it up : look for the " separation line " at the base of the wiper arm and using your thumb and forefinger grab the sides as close to that line as possible and pull up and back . Maybe the separation lines are on each side and offset from the top separation line , but I'm pretty sure that segment is visible enough to give you a hint as to where to grab tne cover and pull. It should work, but if it's stuck for whatever reason maybe you can use a pair of pliers ( cover the area with something when the pliers grab the sides ) and gently pull up and back. Again , this is purely from memory so I hope I remember it correctly .

So I just walked out into the garage and did mine.  At the bottom of the wiper arm, where it attaches to the window, there is a plastic cap about 2 " long running from the bottom of the arm up the arm.  Just grab that and lift straight up, it pops right off. If it's gotten grimy over the years, clean it first.  you could also use a small screwdriver to insert into the gap and pry it up.  But mine has always just lifted right off, simplest removal of anything on the car.

Guys,

I feel pretty stupid about missing the fact that there is a plastic cap covering the whole thing, and with that off it is clear about removing the nut holding the arm on the motor shaft.  In my case, the arm is stuck on the tapered spline on the motor shaft, and I think I will need to buy a wiper removal tool to pull the arm off.

Thanks for all the feedback and comments.

You wouldn't believe the stupid things I've done on my car.  Try just gently prying up the wiper arm and wiggling it, that may move it enough on the spline for it to lift off.  There is pressure on the shaft from the wiper pressing on the glass so lift the wiper arm up slightly.

Spray WD40 on all of the connecting points, edges, nut, etc, etc give it a few minutes and then as AZ said, gently wiggle the arm for a bit, which should hopefully work ..
