I just replaced my stock CR-1 radio and thought I'd make a quick DYI for
those who still haven't had to do theirs yet. My car had the simple six speaker
no amp system so this was rather easy.
Start by disconnecting the battery for 10min or so (don't want to set the Air Bag light)
Then pop off the trim ring around the face of the CR-1 (this come off easy)
Next remove the clock/cubby assembly (it just pulls straight out, no tools) and the ash tray
My cars an automatic so this next step is for Tips...
Unscrew the center button on the shift lever and pull the handle straight up
and off (best to do this neutral or drive and avoid damaged knuckles)
Remove the four phillps screws (two under ash tray and two under the clock)
Lift up the center trim panel and carefully unplug the switches (
watch the order, they can plug in any of the switches)
Now to remove the radio move the lock pins on the side of the unit to the
center of the latch and pull it out (it's tight but it will come out), then just unplug all the connectors
To remove the carrier from the dash use a small screwdriver to bend the "fingers" in to the center of the carrier, there are two larger tabs bent over on the sides (don't forget these) and pull straight out
Time to install...
I didn't want to cut wires so I just used crimp on plugs and electrical tape. The power
and such was straight forward (white plug) just had to trim a couple spades to fit the
car side plug but the speaker plugs (round plugs) needed custom work. As you can see
from the pic the + side is round and - side is flat, for the round one I cut half of a
female connecter off and reshaped it around one of my picks so it fit very tight on the male end
Wiring info...
Alarm wire = leave this unplugged
Antenna = piggy back this with the 12v Key on
Speaker = the flat blade is (-) round is (+) or Blk stripe is (-)
Spaeker plugs
Cage "fingers"
Radio lock and tab
Hope this Helps someone <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
