<{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec-->I pulled the trim cover plate off the CD-2 original stereo yesterday and tried to figure out how to use the 2 DIN tools that crutchfield sent me. (I've never done this before). I assume that the CD-2 has brackets on each side attached to the radio that lock into the sleeve. I'm guessing the locations of where to use the DIN tool. There seems to be a location at all 4 outside corners and between each set (L/R) there is some kind of a slider as you can see in the photos. Any pointers on how to get this out for a newbee?<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
caffine,
I replaced my CD-2 last year and got the same DIN tools from Crutchfield. I could not figure out how to use them either. I don't think they work for this stereo.
As Darryl and Kim said, just push up the part of the locking mechanism with the pin so that it comes free and you can slide out the stereo. I echo the fact that it is difficult to keep the pin from sliding back down and re-latching.
The best technique I found was to put your hand into the slot below the radio where the storage compartment and clock were (I see you have them removed in the picture) and push the CD-2 from the back while moving the pins.
You may need to push the CD-2 back into the dash initially to free up the pins.
Pushing from the back allows you to move the unit easier with one hand, and when it moves a little, you should be able to get the pins to stay in the "free" area.
This explanation may only make sense once you have gotten the stereo out, but as Darryl said, "Once you get it out, you'll think it's easy!"
Let us know if you need clarification.
From the picture, it looks like the locking pins on your CD-2 are already free, but I could be wrong. If so, it's just a matter of pushing the stereo out of the DIN slot. Mine did not slide very easily and required some force. This is another reason to try pushing it from the back so you don't break anything by pulling on it.
Please keep us posted on your progress.
Since you are working with tools from Crutchfield, I assume you're doing an upgrade.
I'd love to know what you have planned.
My upgrade is still a work in progress.
Are you starting with the 10 speaker option in your car?
