No oil pressure
#1

I was driving at Thunderhill yesterday, when in the last session of the day going through turn 14 I notice the warning light is on and the oil pressur is at zero. luckily I was at pit entrance so I quickly dove into the pits and shut the engine off, so hopefully there wasnt any major damage. There was no oil leaking so I think that it is something in the pump broke. Has anyone had this happen to them or know of a something that could have caused it?

The suction tube perhaps - sucking air instead of oil

I know they used to break on some of the 944 types and assume (hope) they've been modified for the 968.

There's also a "hinge-plate-modification" to mount in the oil-pan ... to prevent 'air-sucking' when going fast through corners

Yea, may want to pull the pan and check the oil pick up.
May as well do rod bearings and nuts while your in there.

whatever you do, don't drive it like that until you figure out what it is - i've had complete oil failure a couple of times, and gotten lucky, i just as easily could have had catastrophic failures

if no oil was found shooting all over the place, i would suspect either a sender (hoping for that) or the pickup tube (unfortunately more likely)

In my old cuda I installed an idiot light with a separate sender as a complement to the oil pressure gauge. I am thinking about doing the same to the 968 as it is a good way of determining wether a potentially hazardous condition is real or not.

Hmmm.... I've always had reduced (but not zero) oil pressure in the last couple of runs at Thunderhill. I had chalked it up to hot weather and really pushing the car (I would frequently run double-sessions, so the car is on the track two-third of the time). I never let the oil get to zero though temperature has on occasion get high enough to hit the idiot light.

Definitely proceed with caution. I didn't and the outcome of my experience is here: http://www.968forums.com/index.php?showtopic=7935

I had this issue after engine rebuild, culprit was too loose main crank bolt, needs torque 210Nm.
