"then flames..."

I'd be using a lot stronger language than that or are our legs begin pulled? Posing for a picture with a Mona Lisa smile and a prefect burning 968 in the background?

Tell me you Photoshopped a Ford Escort out and a 968 CS in. That would explain the lack of concern <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Mona Lisa :-) First time I have been compared to her....

Long story regarding the lack of harsher words, a 968 on fire has actually been the least of the problems this spring, sort of just fate... unbelievable ... time for some couchtime I guess (Sigmund as in Freud) maybee.

Summarized what went into that car in terms of sweat labour and money and it was 30 000 USD in parts between me and former owner.

Workshop says engine is probably OK and can live again in another car, now being conserved for a future life. Will buy the wreck from the insurance company to regain some of all the money a insurance company does not cover.

Puzzled, you believe it. Now we are three... not what I expected for a test drive.

Well put, Flash.

So, if it's not too painful to put into a quick synopsis, what happened?

My guess is a leak from the fuel rail. Evidence burned...

Sad today... error was just found and I was to take the car to Gotland (an island outside of Sweden) and play on the best Swedish race track in 2 weeks.

Wow - you have my deepest sympathies. There had to be fuel of some sort. Unless it was an arc that had gradually eroded through a fuel line or something. I do not think I ever want to see a car go up like that.

Given all you have been through and the work done - it is the ultimate bummer. hopefully you can salvage some of the best bits and move forward (and the insurance will be adequate to at least mostly off set the pain incurred).
