i found this to be an issue with something that caught me by complete surprise - i had some screen door material sewn into a bra, and the car ran 15 degrees hotter, due to the blockage of the air into the lower grille area - i never would have thought it would have caused that much resistance in air flow, but it did



i also found some improvements in flow, and resultant top end performance, when opening up the intake grille from less than 40% open to almost 70% open, via dave's grilles

Flash there might be some truth to what your saying and have not done any flow testing, all i know

is I haven't had any problems with the heat even in 100+. IT works well for the daily driver because

it can take the abuse and it keeps the bugs out of the radiator. Although if i was going to track the car alot

I'd look for something more open <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Yea, I saw a couple of different but interesting patterns/selections and I also wondered about heat issues. I like the weave of the OEM plastic and was leaning towards a larger pattern. Check out http://www.internetmesh.net They have both plastic and stainelss steel in a variety of patterns. Item # ES3700 has 67% open area and is stainless steel, while item # ET8900 or EV5500 look very similar to OEM piece. This is going to be a winter project for me, so I'm trying to come up with a course of action.

Darryl I couldn't find those numbers but the expanded stainless was only .024 thick thats not very

substantial. if you could find some around .063 that would be great. the expanded would look cool,

I'd try it. There is only one problem, the stainless is expensive and there might be a minimum

ask them if the have any in the bone yard. I'm up for other options and ideas so keep me posted.



About a week ago I took a set to ge powder coated black and just got them back when i getum in

cool (pardon the pun) - just didn't want to see a repeat of what happened to me - it was a real bummer because i really wanted the screen mesh there, but it just made things run too hot

Bob was just at an event and spent some time on the track and a long drive, I'm curious to know if he noticed a difference.

yeah - me too - running down the highway was no big deal - everything was fine - hard running in the really tight canyons in the summer, and sitting in traffic, was not so much fun - just too much resistance and not enough speed to force cool air in there - removed the mesh and all was fine again - i'll have to live with cleaning out the bugs
