I can't believe how beautiful the new B&B performance muffler is! It's worthy of being classified as an art piece. Right now I've got it in the family room to admire. You can't say THAT about many car mufflers! The stainless steel is polished so well (the ENTIRE thing!!!) that it looks like it's chromed. It was well packed and arrived with 'nary a dent or scuff on it.
I used to build street rods so I weld..but I could never make beautiful welds like are on this outfit. On looks alone it's worth the extra $100 or so I paid for it. Sells at Precision for $805 plus shipping. I got it for about $700, including shipping with info from this listserv. In my mind it's worth every penny. Looks like it will bolt on in a half-hour of work. In addition to the primary muffler it has a large resonator built in so it shouldn't be so loud that the wife and neighbors will key my car. Car alarms go off when I rev my 928 cat-back straight pipe.
The 968 sound clips a couple of you sent me and others (non-968) which are available on the B&B website are exactly what I'm looking for in sound. (sound/vido clips at
http://www.bbexhaust.com)
If I were designing and building a muffler system, this is pretty well what I'd build, only it would look like a piece of crap if made locally.
The 'vette gets a DOCUMENTED 10hp increase with the B&B cat-back alone. Not sure what the 968 will get but it should show some improvement.
The above is not meant to be an exhaustive study in passing gas..as it's not installed and dynoed yet. I admit that verbal claims don't cut it, so I'll wait to see how it performs. So far, I'm far from being dissatisfied.
It's 11 degrees today in my garage so I'll have to wait for a warm spell to install.
Wow!

[quote name='S_Cal968' date='Feb 17 2006, 12:02 PM']I hate to say it, but it looks like a chrome-plated Flowmaster[?]. Nice none the less...

Actually, it could be a $100 Flowmaster with $600 worth of polish work on the stainless!? Hope it sounds as good as it looks (reminds me of a woman I used to know).

[quote name='S_Cal968' date='Feb 17 2006, 08:30 PM']If it's chambered like a f/master, it'll be quite loud.... [and that's not all, we'll even throw in a set of fuzzy ear-plugs...] <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

It also has a resonator that may help dampen sound some (looks like a glasspack built into the pipe. I'm old enough to use fuzzy dice and have ears big enogh that those may work. THe wife may have other ideas where to stick them.
