Middle muffler removal
#1

Has anybody ever tried to remove the middle muffler to remove a little weight and to improve the sound a little bit? I don't expect to gain any power, but I would like some better sound without spending $600.

DON'T do it, I did it once and it sounded HORRIBLE, had them weld back on immediately.

I can certainly recommend the RSBarn cat back system as being worth the investment. Save a ton of weight and the sound is so much better, it was all I had to listen to yesterday for 4 hours on the trip back from his shop since I screwed the radio code up before I left. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

while i was in philly for the event, i finally got a chance to drive and listen to a car with just the rs barn cat-back (seems all the california cars i come across have the header too) - sounded great

then, yesterday, i installed one in a local car here - again, i was very impressed with the sound, as is the owner - amazing weight loss, snappier throttle, great tone

save the pennies (and the hassle) and get it - you won't be sorry

Looks like I need to get on Pete's RS Barn band wagon too! Having purchased the cat back from Pete several months ago, we just got around to installing the system on our car this last weekend. Actually, my 21 year old son did it.....with me providing some coaching. The system components fit like a glove. We were lucky and got the old system off the car in about 30 minutes (we're fortunate that our car has absolutely no corrosion on the undercarige....so a little bit of Kroil and the bolts all came out nicely). It took us about the same time.........or maybe a little less to install Pete's system. We had to move things around a bit to get the exhaust tip centered.....but, nothing was a hassle. Quite a different sound than the stock exhaust! Well worth the money.

If you want a better sound and less weight for less money, remove the rear muffler and have two pipes welded on to extend back to the rear of the car. I had this done at a local muffler shop for about $80.00 and I love the sound as well as the look of it. Had two "pencil tip" chrome extensions welded on at the same time. I lost about 40 pounds in the process and the shop said they can weld the muffler back on any time I want to go back to stock. A pleasant, deeper tone than stock, louder, but not offensive. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

I installed the RS Barn cat-back about 2 weeks ago and love the sound and the response. Can't speak to the weight because I never weighed anything!
