Keyless Entry Problem
#1

Something very alarming happened yesterday when I got home from work. I got out of my car as usual and hit the button to lock the car. Much to my surprise, it beeped! I thought to myself “That alarm doesn’t have a beep!” So, I went back to unlocked it again and it beeped twice. Then, I noticed that the beep wasn’t coming from my car at all… it was coming from another car; someone visiting my neighbor. Not believing my eyes, I locked my car again, and sure enough, the other car locked and beeped.

Later, I saw the guy who owned the other car leaving, so I went out and showed him. Sure enough, he had a bulldog key fob as well. Strangely, his fob wouldn’t unlock my car. Makes you wonder how many other fobs might be able to unlock your car! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/mad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

no basis other than wild guess / speculation : may be 1 out of every 50 fobs ?

After all, haven't most of us driven up and down our street just to see how many neighbors' garage doors we can open with our garage remote ?! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

( rhetorical Q )

not sure how many different frequencies there are on garage openers VS. car systems though... anyone care to chime in with a scientific reply ?

The Bulldog units have a kind of rolling code. If you disconnect the receiver from the battery for more than 2 minutes, then the next time you use the remote, you reset the code to something else. If you are using both remotes, you will have to resynchronize them again.

this did present a problem one day when a few of us, who all had the same system, were all parked next to each other at a car show - we were all locking and unlocking our cars during the show - my system ended up "losing it's mind" so to speak - it developed amnesia - had to reset it - not a big deal, but rather annoying

it has happened once since

on the garage door thing - before we moved here, the garage where i used ot park my car was entered by someone who went to home depot, boutght their $12 universal remote, and sat there flipping dip switches until they got the code - apparantly took about an hour - they broke into 8 cars

something to think about - that $4 slide bolt is sounding like a great extra precaution for times when i am going to be absent for a while, and at night - that or unplugging the opener

A plug in timer that the door motor plugs into works great for no late night entry. Just set to OFF between 12pm and 6am weekdays.

If you have a new garage door opener, or old and you have never changed the switches from "delivered" settings...go out and change them now. An easier way to break into garages during the day when most are not home is to cruise the blocks with a standard Sears and Genie remote and see what opens. Takes way less time than FLASH's uninvited guests took.

yeah - did that

these guys wanted into this particular garage - underground - no street view - quiet - lots of high dollar cars with aftermarket stereos - they were willing to spend the time

they had been doing this all over town - they caught them though, because they left the remote in one of the cars, and went out to buy another one
