Keyless Entry Key Fob Mod
#1

Ok, so I recently did the keyless entry install using the key mounted unit from rightclick. So I like it, but I have two keys from the unit, and I really like the original key with the round head, so simple. Anyway, I ordered a leather fob with a Porsche emblem on it and once it arrived, I realized I could probably pull it apart, put the keyless entry electronics in it, and have a completely hidden classy keyless entry set up. All I have to do now is get my girlfriend to sew it back together

I imagine that most people will see this as a waste of time, but I think it's pretty cool, so here are a few pics.

Cool, very good idea!

I notcie that you have a 924 key...why not get a nice modern key to complement your new leather fob

I wonder how big the circuit is thats in the flip style remote from rightclick... I've actually been contemplating taking the keyless out of my car because I'm not too fond of the flip remote anymore, maybe this is the solution. Great idea! Thank you for sharing.

Thanks Johann, I do have one of those newer keys, though the Porsche emblem fell off before the previous owner gave it to me, and the battery needs replacing, but I think you're right, that would look good.

Direwolf, I imagine the circuitry is identical in the two units, the circuit board shape might be a bit different though as this one looks like it was shaped to fit the head of the key.

slightly off topic - i just found out the hard way not too long ago that the keys for the M3 get charged while driving - no battery replacement possible - of course, since we never drive it, i can't keep the keys charged up (note that it is for sale because of that lack of driving)

Batteries should last 4 years+ as their lithium. That's plenty of time to find new girl friends that can sew

What a great idea! I need to add a keyless entry to my list of things to do, after I get the things that need fixing fixed.

This is the key Flash is talking about that I have.
RightClick
The whole kit is only about $45 and the quality is really nice. I now have one of these and the leather fob I made from the other one.

Yes Dave, 4 years should be plenty of time

Hi,

I like a lot this idea, but the links to the RightClick website do not work anymore... Can someone point me in the right direction to the keyless kit that will fit the leather thinghy? I want to order it (i'm in Europe), but do not know which one to order... also would like confirmation that this also allows the trunk release feature).

Thanks so much!

How difficult are these things to install and wire up? Is there a particular brand or unit that people recommend for the 968?

There is a DIY from quite a while back, and although the units recommended are still available, they have change a lot, and there are several threads about the installation that go back and forth about changes to the procedure, wiring options, etc.

I'm currently collecting all of the different threads as local files on my PC and I'm going to try to bring them together into a coherent whole.

I'm also just about to purchase a Right Click unit, but am trying to decide between three different "flip key" editions - which appear to have no difference other than the shape of the key fob parts. I also have a full/deluxe remote starter in the garage that I might consider installing as it would give me all the remote entry as well as remote start, trunk pop, etc.

I have never messed with the switchblade key but I did do the Bulldog install as many of us have done and it works flawlessly including the trunk pop. The DIY here works fine plus the addendum for the trunk pop wire.
