Remote Locking with Porsche Key
#1

Is anyone interested in a remote-locking solution using a Porsche remote-button key vs. an aftermarket fob?

I am attracted to mods that are like what Porsche has done on newer models, so have investigated this scenario. Also, my other cars all have integral button/key combinations, so hanging a cheapo fob onto my keychain for my favorite(!) car seems like a step backwards.

Found a gentleman in the UK who has done projects with the 986/996 remote keys and can create a receiver box to take the lock/unlock signal and feed it to the car's wiring in the same manner as an aftermarket box. I am pretty sure that the key blade for our cars can be installed into the 986/996 keyhead, and have bought one to verify this ($60 on EBay).

Assuming the key blade can be grafted into the newer remote keyhead, who would be interested in pursuing this mod? I think we could do a "group buy" deal with Stefan and split the development cost. I know our alarm computer is a 928 part number so I'm going to check with Shark owners over on Rennlist too.

Thoughts?

Since most of us have either BULLDOG or nothing, it would make more sense for your UK guy to tune the transmitter to talk to the BULLDOG receiver. If he can do this and maintain the door lock/unlock feature as well as the trunk pop, I would be interested as well.

I just ordered the bulldog entry system after readinf these posts. The pictures are of a 996 keyfob, which has only one button. The Boxster key has 2 on opposite side of the crest, so you could do the trunk and doors of the 968 I would think.

I don't have a remote system installed yet, but would be very interested in having it integrated into the key head. Count me in.

use Microsoft picture manager and you can pull in just the key and nothing else using the + button. It comes with MS office if you have that. If not I can send it in something else. It is a pretty big key, but not as big as a key fob. The downside is the programming for Porschee codes. Using this bulldog thing we should be able to get around that. Dealers get 100 bucks or so to program the head

Long overdue bump ... successfully installed my 968 key blade into a Boxster transponder key. So next question is what box would read it's signals to operate the doors and hatch? Will do some more research and post when I have an update

I am very interested. I have an audiovox remote system (would not recommend it), but I'm not going to change now. I need the rear hatch option as well.

Bulldog or otherwise, and like to have trunk pop.

Careful on that functionality. Anecedotal evidence suggests that allowing the trunk to pop open without controlling it by hand may speed up the de-lamination of the rear hatch glass. I only release mine with the key and raise it slowly.
