At this point I'll have to remove my stock unit and reverse engineer it. Just looking at the picture I noticed a few areas that could be improved.

i understand that you are upset and/or disappointed - i was too when i went through the 30 or so hours of work on the kit, making up drawings, sourcing out components, only to find out that it wouldn't work - it was a huge pain in the butt

of course i can't predict the future plans for anybody's car - i also don't want to make any assumptions - but, i do know what is in store for dino's right now - so, i am confident it found a new home, and at this point in time, likely the best one available right now

of course i don't have any issue with a "second set of eyes" looking at this - in fact, there have already been quite a few sets of eyes that have looked at it, including but not limited to: the original designer, with whom i spoke at length about the design when i first got mine, the designer of the shift block currently on the market, and pete at rs barn - we all came to the same determination which was that there are very real limitations to what can be done in there

the need for flexibility in angular rotation, the limitations of the long shaft running down the middle of the car, the tolerances required up front, and the amount of movement required at both ends all factored into a very difficult situation that resulted in an expensive and complicated design - it "works" but is not without very real issues that make it undesirable for many

i would absolutely NOT recommend this for a daily driver - it's a very different animal than the one for the 944

are there areas that could be improved on the kit? probably, though i doubt they would come without further compromise - the real question though is why bother? i fought with this for a couple of months - i kept bumping into the same problems - expensive components, new ones needing to be made, difficult installation - it was a serious exercise in turd polishing - that all ends up to a huge waste of time when there is a much easier and less expensive solution

feel free though to reverse engineer to your heart's content - best of luck - i'd be happy to pass along the things i learned about it

Bob, we've known each other a long time, but after reading your response, it's obvious you don't know me that well. Over the years I've spent a ridiculous amount of time working on cars - it's my hobby so time is not an issue. Whether my car will be used on the track is beside the point and no one else is in a position to second guess what I choose to modify. If I want to have a SS for daily driving that's my prerogative. If I want to make adjustments every other month that's for me to decide.
Fortunately Dino has been kind enough to contact me and who knows at some point I may end up with the kit after-all...

you are absolutely correct - i make no such presumptions, but rather drew conclusions based on what i have seen, and what you've said in the past - it's your car and you can do what you want with it

do what you want - i am not stopping you - it's your time, and you are certainly entitled to spend it however you want

a short shift is desirable - no question - there is just a much easier and less expensive way to go about it, with a smoother result

my job is to facilitate the good decisions of others by providing the best information and product recommendations i can - it's up to you whether or not to use that advice

again, i'm happy to pass along all the things i found out when working on this - good luck

got the prototype - worked like a charm

we're looking at about a minimum of a 15-20% reduction in shift pattern (depending on where you adjust it)

fits exactly like OEM - designed to accept the OEM shift knob with exactly the same fit - no changes whatsoever there

it will come complete with a new ball socket bushing, since you will probably destroy yours removing it

it will be black powdercoated to prevent rust and contamination

yes, it works with the rear mounted kit as well - ridiculously tiny pattern if you adjust it all the way to maximum

i'll have pete post the pics, pricing and all that on his site soon

because one of the things i did was incorporate an adjustability in one of the items, it can be very close, or it can be about 1/2" shorter, depending on where you adjust it - the shorter the height, the shorter the pattern, so it's a trade off to some extent

Did this myself a couple of moons back. Very straight forward kit to install and a very positive feel about the result. I naturally went for the shortest shift pattern possible with the result that the linkage (the rod that goes backwards) was rubbing something along the way interfering with shifting. Readjustment took less that ten minutes. This kit in kombination with an oil that aids in gear synchro (the opposite of what's used in lsd's, torsens excluded) really transformed the car.
