G's intake mod part 1
#1

I just wanted to share my intake mods I completed today. I spent about $25 and about 2 hours to come up with this one. The filter I had in my closet since '97...it is a K&N from my old 300ZX.

1: Remove factory box.

2: Rotate factory hose (between the throttle body and the AFM) 90 degrees CCW.

3: Put it together.

4: Alter plastic front cover to accomodate the new plumbing.

The next step is to shield this from the engine cavity. Since the front area near the filter will be pressurized by the factory intake air hole, I don't see it being too difficult to keep the hot engine air out with additional shields.

Check out the pics. I will keep you posted.

That is one serious cone filter! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/ohmy.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> As filters go, the bigger the better. Looks like another zero loss solution.

The filter appears to be the 'flat oval' type is that correct? Is there a part number on it? It also looks like you used a 'coupling' (the St Stl pc with bands) to make the connection, like what is used on Cast Iron vent pipe, is this correct?

Any way great job, it has to help! And goes in without having to 'butcher' anything. I like it!

not a bad install - defintely a simple thing

we tested a cone filter setup - it didn't do as well - could be a surface area thing - not sure

what we came up with totalled about 40 bucks - how much was that filter?

Flash,

The filter was very expensive when I bought it....probably $70 or more. I don't remember. The surface area on this particular filter is greater than the factor panel. It still may be less efficient than the flat one..this is such an old filter, it lacks the air horn inside the filter to aid in flow.

How much did the numbers differ from a cone type to the one you ended up with during your development? How large was the cone filter? Where did you place it?
