Getting ready to do intake mods.
#1

Hey guys, I have all my stuff gathered up and am getting ready to do the airbox mod with K7N and also clean the MAF with crc and will also chg rotoe and check dist cap and put in iridium plugs. My cab is at 57K and running good, but wanted to do these things and maybe increase performance a bit. Is there anything else I need to do while it is apart. Suggestions appreciated. Thanks mountainman

You probably want to replace plug wires also.

You are going to love the airbox mod!!! Makes a huge diff. , O yea you should do a cat back exhaust from the barn.

The exhaust is definitely on the list but will have to wait a while. Have to save up a bit for that. I think I will order some plug wires as they can go in anytime. Just want to get in everything now that would need to have the airbox removed for while it is out. I am hoping it will make significant difference, especially between 1500 and 3000 rpm. Hope to get it done tomorrow or next day

Consider the first stage chip mod from RS Barn.

agreed.

The Airbox mod in conjunction with a chip & cat-back makes a huge diff compared to stock. Its a must for any 968 imho.

Did the airbox, plugs, cap and rotor and K&N last night. Can't believe how easy and quick it was. Have not yet don a test drive so not sure about any improvement. It does seem tomaybe idle a little smoother and about 100rpm faster. I also cleaned the MAF with CRC. It had a good amount of buildup in there and looked to have never been cleaned. It was a piece of cake to do and can't hurt. Road test today if the rains hold off. Don't want to have to put up the top.
Also getting her cleaned up for what is billed as the worlds biggest car show at Lowes Motor Speedway this weekend. We are having close to 80 Porsches there out of about 1500 cars. I'll post my test drive results a little later.

Took a test drive this afternoon. Noticeable smoother power thru the 1500 to 4000 rpm range. Not earth shattering difference, but enough to make a difference. I love the more pronounced growl both from the intake and the exhaust. That alone is worth the price of the mod. I think I will alorder new spark plug wires also. Anyone have an opinion on kind and reasonable prices for them. Thanks for the input. mountainman

ngk iridium - no question - better spark - longer lasting - the copper plugs are "ok", but there is a noticeable improvement with the iridiums, primarily in how consistent the engine runs after some miles are on the plugs

it's more than any power increase of a particular plug too

a fresh set of iridiums, replacing an old set of iridiums, has a far smaller effect than a fresh set of coppers replacing a worn set of coppers - this clearly shows that the performance of the copper plugs decreases over time, whereas the performance of the iridium plugs maintains a higher level longer

I have the iridiums already in and now am looking at plug wires. Mine appear to be the originals with 18 yeats and 57K on them.

Can anyone tell me how much 4 iridiums cost in the US? I need to pay 80 Euro for 4 here in Europe and I am sure I read somehwere on this forum that they are much cheaper in the US.

I'm thinking someone can buy them stick them in a tube and send them to me for much cheaper than 80 euros
