Finally bought a chip
#1

So I finally got off my duff to order a Stage 1 chip form RS Barn. I can't wait to get it installed. I just hope that I am not too busy on the weekends to put it in once I receive it. Need time to do the airbox mod as well. I will write back after I get it installed.

Should only take 2 or 3 hours for the chip and mod.

Then go for a drive for the rest of the day...

Measured the performance along the way. If you have a gtech meter you can measure the HP and your 0 -60 before drilling the box. Measure again after the ABM, add chip and measure a final time.

I will still do this as well assuming I can just tape off the holes or get another air box.

The thing about the chips is that they really ruin your gas mileage. There's just too much tempation to hold the foot on the floor and let it rev to the limit.

lol - too true - my 968 is CAPABLE of getting the best mileage of any of my cars - what it usually really gets, and where that ranks, is another story altogether, and usually too close to the denali for my comfort

to add insult to injury, i mix in 4-5 gallons of 100 octane in each tank, at a staggering $8.00/gallon

Thank you everyone. I'm really excited. I have a Corrado as well but I have decided to put all my focus on my 968. Over the next few years I will be replacing various interior parts. Started with the floor mats. Beautiful start. I even ordered little plastic pieces to replace on the sunroof hinges. There was one missing screw on the original hinges and it had me all upset. I have cracks on my headlight cover and I have ordered new covers for both sides. Just need to get them painted now. Kinda getting that anal.

This car has really got me thinking about making it the best I can. No other car has made me try to do that.

Brian,

Porsches have a way of getting into your blood... As is obvious, I have been bitten by the bug... a few times!

Believe me, I've been bitten pretty hard. Looking for a late 80's early 90's 911. Have to wait till I sell one of my other cars, but I am keeping an eye open for one at all time.

Brian,

I have yet dared to take the plunge to the "other side," but, admittedly, I lust after a 1998 well-sorted Carrera 4S from time to time... Not going to lie... I'll take mine in Arena Red, thank you.

98 octane over here in Europe is 9,06$$$ a gallon.

So you have cheap petrol in your country!

Even when you use 100 octane racing fuel!

And that is roughly equal to our 93 octane, which around my area is about $3.40

don't get me wrong, i think gas is way too cheap here, and i'd like to see european pricing over here, IF it meant that the extra money would go somewhere that it did some good, but that is a different conversation for a different day - my point was that the big jump for a few octane seems out of line, and a bit of a wallet shock comparitively

9 buck a gallon gas would produce riots in this country...this economy will collapse...more than 90% of the US work force drives to work with no other means to get from point A to B...I for one am pretty upset of the fact of a $70 dollar fill up. Unfortunately...we all better get use to it...even though are great leader in an interview laughed at the idea yesterday...what’s he smoking?

lol - here we go - i was hoping to avoid the political discussion - going WAY off topic here...............

the reason you don't have good public transportation is because gas has always been so cheap - where is the motivation to develop anything else?

as i said, IF and only if the money went some place effective, like into public transportation, i would welcome high gas prices - it would reduce the amount of cars on the road, reduce pollution, and reduce traffic, thereby making it a lot nicer for those who do drive

i further think that we should be forcing dilapidated cars off of the road

i'm a hard ass when it comes to driving, and the misconception that it is a right as opposed to the extreme privilege that it actually is - i have no problem paying for that privilege - when i was young, and couldn't afford a car, i figured out how to get where i needed to on public transportation or a bicycle

we have just made it too easy and cheap for people to drive - the result is the nightmare we now have on the roads, and overseas

as for the economy, that will always shift as things change - those who currently work in one industry would move on to another - it has always been that way, and always will - the paranoia that it would suddenly collapse is just propaganda, put forth by those who want to maintain the status quo - it wouldn't be sudden by any means, and there would be plenty of crossover development to phase it in gradually

if we don't do something about developing public transportation, and reducing the dependence on cars and oil, we will surely have a collapsed economy, as we will no longer be able to get around - this has huge ramifications globally - the first tactic of warfare is to cut off supply lines - that would effectively be done by merely cutting off the gas supply - as an example, take a look at the pacific theatre of WWII - how effective could we be as a world power if that happened to us?

it's not as far fetched as you think

Flash thanks for the retort but to think less than a 100 yrs of industrial fortitude has put a dent in the oil reserves of this planet is liking to the thought of us running out of water....don’t drink the cool aid and as for the debate on environmental impact to our carbon burping cars heating up the planet. Please...the solar system is much too dynamic for us to make assertions with respect to weather phenomenon. The Suns output, the Earths orbit and countless other undiscovered reasons as to the why, what, and how.

More than likely....GREED

Oh and by the way...I walk to work and take a trolley to shop for food

LuKe

Ah, the chip...that’s what it was...lol

I am interested to know how you feel prying the back off your very expensive ECM. I have a Racer X chip that needs to go in so if you could send a photo or two that would be cool.

Between these 2 threads in the DIY you should be able to swap a chip in no time at all.....
