funny to see u'rs $70 fillup wondering, for me it costs 100eur per fillup, that's $150 with current USD vs. eur exhange ratios. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> it's no cheap to have porsche fun, but you can spend the same money for something less pleasing aswell.

lol - well, we are definitely headed for an ugly political discussion which this thread is not about - i would be happy to have that discussion offline, but anything further along those lines is not appropriate here

lol - i am frequently guilty of taking a thread off track, and thought i'd try to bring it back - i love the discussions though, and welcome them in an appropriate thread, or better still, offline

Well, having spent some considerable time poring over the forums, I have just ordered a chip. Now I need to do the airbox mod and change the filter. With all the info here and the detailed DIY's I'm hoping this will be relatively easy.

1 question though... which filter do go with, is the K&N the way forward?

Thanks in advance.

yes - we tested it - the K&N (as opposed to OEM) is responsible for nearly half of the power increase

do not over-oil

And oil it on the proper side, the side that the air is coming in on..

Not yet. It should be arriving sometime this week. Most likely by Wed. I'm hoping to put it in next weekend but I may have to go out of town to help my mom with selling her car.

But it's fine. I have to dig out the K&N filter somewhere anyways. I stopped using it at the request of my mechanic. How much is too much oil? I just spray the one side very lightly and let it spread through the rest of the media. I have no excess drip or anything. In fact sometimes I also put it on top of a paper towel to absorb off whatever excess there is.

spray the entry side LIGHTLY - it should not have more oil on it than it does when it is new - think along the lines of hairspray, not spray glue

I've found that these cleaning need to take place more frequently on the 968 then my other cars, as they all run K&Ns. When I clean and oil I feel the difference on the 1st drive out, 2nd and 3rd is good as well but shortly after that its a tad weaker. i don't remove and clean right away but when I get back around to it never looks filthy but it is obviously clogged.

BTW My car is not a DD
