The bar on my driver's door stop (technically, the "arrestor") broke. I happened to have a spare arrestor, so I thought this would be a relatively easy "remove the broken, replace with the new". Well, of course, that was not meant to be. The part of the arrestor thats on (in) the door is mounted with two triple-square bolts that pass through sheet metal of the door. Well, it appears that this has been a long-simmering breakage. The door sheet metal on which the arrestor mounts is broken off from the door. So, even if I could remove the old arrestor, there's nothing left on which to mount the new one.



I'm open to suggestions.

One option would be to repace the door. There is a midnight blue chassis in Sonoma, Ca for sale on rennlist for $250 that includes doors.

sounds like its time to break out the wire feed or take the door to a welding shop.

Welding is where I think I'm likely to end up. I'm wondering if there's any chance someone can do this without removing the door. Anyone know how much of a challenge there is in realigning the door after it's removed?

Anchorman, realigning the door should not be a problem if you mark the location of the hinges before removing it. I have not removed a door on this model of Porsche, but seem to remember that on a 924 you could just remove the hinge pins and leave the hinges in place. That doesn't require any adjustment at all. Thanks, Bob - I'll take a look as you suggest. I'd really hate to create a problem in the process of fixing a problem - particularly since the door works quite nicely now (other than the latest little problem, which isn't as bad when I park facing up a slight incline).
