My apologies if I misunderstood your question. My plastic pan does not attach like the one shown in the PET. I have three bolts which go through both the trailing edge of the "batwing (front apron)" and the front of the plastic pan, and they fit into nuts that are welded to the back of the radiator support. There are no "captive nuts" (part #4) for my car.



I do have captive nuts in the front/middle of the pan, but they have never been attached to anything - I will check tonight to see if they attach to something as mentioned earlier in this thread.



There are then also three speed nuts and bolts to attach the rear of the plastic pan to the front of the metal pan if it's there.

the 2 captive, clip on, or whatever you want to call them, nuts in the front are for the left and right plastic louvered pieces.

I might be missing them as well - I'll have to check when I get home... Is this part number 7, on PET page 801-25, or 944.504.385.01 (L) and 944.504.386.01 (R )?

if you decide to get them, and you have a splitter, you'll need to drill a couple of holes in the splitter to pick up mounting points

depends on what you define as "important"



they help prevent extraneous air from entering the engine bay



they help prevent road gunk from entering the engine bay



they help connect the oem front apron, giving it vertical support



they look cool and you can say "neener neener" to the later cars that didn't get them when porsche decided to cheap out and start deleting parts

I folded an aluminum foil sheet into shape and duct-taped it in place where the metal pan was in earlier cars. There, now I can also enjoy the benefits of a third pan...and if you put cookie dough on top of it, after a long drive you have freshly baked chocolate chip cookies ! :-)
