constant heat in car
#1

The heat is always constant in my car. The controls do not help and the source seems to be the windshield. vents and the console vents blows hot air all the time. even when my controls are off.

The side vents are fine seems to mainly be the windshield and center vents.

had mechanic look at it once he said it was fine heater conrol valve seems to be ok also.

The fans in these cars is always on a little bit, even when the switch says they are off. Do you have the temp. setting to the cool side? Even if the a/c is off you will be getting cooler air from the outside rather than hot air from the engine. Hope that helps.

Behind your temp control unit are a couple of plastic clips. These have a tendency to break, and have been a known failure mode of the 924/944/968 line up for a long time. You should be able to see the broken clips if you remove the plastic covers on the side of the center console.

I bet if you do a search you'll find some pics.

yeah - check that

also, check to see that the heater control valve operates with the controls - the plunger should move visibly when you engage heat

as for the difference in ducts, that is routing related - the center exits will always be stronger than the perimeter exits

Clarks Garage has a good write-up with pictures on the plastic clip breaking and the heater control valve malfunctioning:

http://www.clarks-garage.com/

It is in the "Garage Shop Manual" section under "Heater"

I can't say if it is exactly the same on a 944 as a 968 but it is a good place to start.

does it blow out somewhat forcefully, or just hot air at a trickle?

check to be sure that the button on the centre strip just beside the ignition switch that turns on the defrost (always hot, always full speed, doesn't matter what rest of settings are at) is not switched on.

I just fixed my car...same thing and it was a broken clip. Big $1.50 for the part.
