Car leaks water... But not coolant?
#1

It seems that after my car has been driven for a while, it leaks water. I don't know where it comes from, but it's not coolant (I use red coolant, the water is clear). My A/C was not used. The picture shows a droplet on the crossmember, there is a small puddle on the ground. The car is bonedry and I tried several times to locate the origine of the moisture. Condensation from the exhaust?

Any thoughts?

IMO only five sources: : rain , heavy morning dew , recent car wash , ( accumulated somewhere and then just eventually leaked out ) AC condensation , or , exhaust condensation . Since you did not use the AC , and you haven't mentioned any rain or dew, or car washes, it has to be the exhaust. And I've always wondered about the exhaust clear water spillage because I see many cars with water pouring out of the tail pipe ..and we're talking about A LOT of water, not just barely visible drops, but a friggin' stream . I have no clue how it's possible that so much condensation gathers inside the exhaust

No rain or anything like that. The car sleeps inside.

I wonder why the water appears where it does. I never noticed it before. My old heat shield was badly rusted, so maybe it is a normal phenomenon.

Maybe the manifold is leaking?

If it's normal, surely somebody here must have noticed it before?

There's another source of water that hasn't been mentioned - the windshield washer fluid. Could this be the culprit?

Good point ( and our reservoirs are very prone to cracks and thus leaks .) , however, I suspect most people don't fill that one up with plain water, and the store bought fluid mixes are always green or blue and have a scent as well...

Quick thinking Rob, but like DS says, no scent I'm afraid. There must be more people with a rusted heatshield?

Was the car washed recently? Maybe water pooled somewhere?

I poored some water on the windshield and in the battery tray, it comes out everywhere EXCEPT on the crossmember. I'll fill my windshield fluid reservoir all the way to the top and see if the level drops.

One more possibility: did you park next to a Ferrari or a Lamborghini ? The car could just have pissed itself out of intimidation.. :-) :-)

( have to give flash credit for coming up with that when he was talking about the 968's reaction to having a Ferrari next to it in his garage, LOL , so I can't claim it as my own, but funny enough to share ..)

I'll also have to check under my car for liquids if someone with that new Dodge Hellcat parks next to me : -)

But seriously folks, if the windshield fluid had been in the reservoir for a very long time, it is possible I suppose that it " diluted " with time where both the color and the scent faded completely and it looks clear.
