Over the past year or so I have mentioned here that my '92 coupe has had clutch pedal issues, beginning with a slow pedal return. I did the braided hose fix and bleeding operation, along with trying the pedal adjustments. Today I recovered the car from Omega Motorsports in Jacksonville, where, among other things, I asked them to check the clutch adjustment. They re-bled the clutch and noticed the clutch pedal motion didn't feel correct. Investigating, they discovered that the clutch pedal master cylinder is torquing to one side when the clutch is operated--I watched as the pedal was depressed and saw the assembly move to one side. I'm grateful for this discovery, but Omega's man thinks I may need a good body man to weld up what he suspects is a flexing firewall and likely metal fatigue at the master cylinder mounting point. Tonight I will give the area a further investigation in the engine bay and clutch pedal mounting point inside. I'm wondering whether I might fit a steel reinforcing plate inside the firewall, or possibly mount a brace off the interior wheel well encircling and holding the assembly in place, or look for a competent soul to strip out the whole area and weld up whatever is flexing. Omega has never seen this condition before, and likely the same potential exists with the 944s. Anyone had the experience?
