i've been asked this before, and put a LOT of thought into it



probably not a 6 point unit - first off, i would need a car for a month to work it out - the mounting points are not the same up top, and i would need to figure out how to get it in the car - it does not fit in through the door or the rear hatch, even with the seats removed - so, i would need to break it up, and that violates both SCCA and PCA design parameters



however, i could probably make a modified version to fit, but it would not pass spec - it would be 4 point, not 6, and the main hoop would either split in 2 at the top, or have to slide down onto pegs at the base (which might actually pass spec)



so, yes, it could be done, but differently

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, I'm located on the east coast, so unless someone else can lend you a coupe for a month or so, I may be out of luck. I hadn't really given much thought to getting it in and out of the car though (as wierd as that may sound). Perhaps something could be made to go through the hatch? I don't know how many others there are like me, but I think that it would be great to get a rollbar that would pass spec and bolt in (even if the bolt-in process was complex - I don't think I'll be taking the bar in and out often, but I would like to have the option to do so without leaving holes in the car).

pricing would be about the same as the cab unit

That's great news! Definitely please keep me updated as this unfolds.



For what its worth, in my opinion, I think that I would be perfectly happy with a unit that required seat removal to get the bar in and out as long as there are no permanent changes to the car (eg drilling or welding). I don't know if this is possible, but one thing that might be a nice bonus is if the unit fits in the car even with the stock rear seat in place. I say this because, while many people (probably including myself) would get the unit along with a RS-style carpet rear seat delete, it would be nice to have the flexibility (particularly for the case of "I want the rollbar now and will get rid of the seats soon, but I can't quite swing both right now and don't want to compromise the aesthetics of the car")* If its not possible, its not a dealbreaker, but if it is possible, having that flexibility would be like icing on the cake, so to speak





*No offense to anyone who has just removed their rear seat top - I know it shaves a bit of weight but I'm not a fan of the look

update on the cab version - the plates are being made now - the tubing should be bent any day now - that moves us to welding - moving along
