Arrived at Seatle depot on Jan 4 and picked up the same day.

Must've been a lot of work to pack this thing...

I'll unpack and inspect for damage tonight.

With snow, wind and now flood on the road here, now is the perfect time to work on my 968 <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Thanks Bob!!

It certainly sounds like the packing has improved greatly since my unit - serial #1 - was shipped. Well done, Flash.

if it's damaged underneath, do not delay if you are going to file a claim - take pictures BEFORE you unwrap it

Hey,

I have a base chassis brace for sale - in case you missed this batch or want to save a few $. Mine is brand new from the first batch - never got to install it and now don't need it (got 944 Turbo S for DE). Drop me an e-mail at abelov@spotonusa.com, if interested. Asking $650 plus shipping (~$175) or pick-up in Stamford, CT.

i can't remember if yours had the bungs for the harness bar and/or x-brace or not, or if it had those pieces - the first batch had differences from one unit to the next - we didn't incorporate all those features until the second batch

cool - so, just to be clear, there are 6 tapped holes? that's what is in all the newer versions - only a couple of guys went that way in the first batch, and it was a long time ago - i'd have to dig up the records to figure that one out - save me!

did you get either the harness bar or x-brace?

Flash,

I am glad you asked. I did order x-brace back then, but it did not arrive with my order. I called the fabricator and he apologized for confusion with the records and offered to make one for me, after I install the brace in the car and measure exact distance between mounting points. I never got around doing this, but this is an option for the next owner.

I unpacked the brace last week as it was still in its original packaging in dry storage - it looks very nice. I am not sure about six-hole design, where are they located? My brace has welded mounting points for large bolts on top of sloping support legs, right next to the junction with the main bar. These mounts were designed to accept a $100-200 cross-element, as I understand. Perhaps one can mount a wind deflector there also, but I am not sure.

that sounded a little odd, so i just pulled the original emails from 2005 - you ordered what we called at the time a "street/sport" unit - this only came with the 2 points for an optional additional harness bar - it was not the "race version" and therefore did not come with the other 4 holes for the x-brace

i can pull the payment records to verify, and that could take some time, as the fabricator took some of the payments of the first batch, but i am pretty sure you only ordered the street/sport bar, and held off on ordering the harness bar - if one had been ordered, it should have been shipped bolted to the unit - this will be easy to verify - the first batch pricing was $375 for the base model, $400 for the street sport, and $450 for the race spec - none of these came with the optional items at that price - back then the harness bar was $75 and the x-brace was $150

bottom line though, if you paid for it, and you didn't get it, he should build it

however, if the threaded holes are not there for the x-brace, there is no way to ever mount one, without sending it back, having that brace made, welding in the bungs, and then re-coating the unit

as a side note, we simplified this entire process by including all 6 on every unit from that point on

Flash,

Thank you for clarification, so this is a street/sport version that accepts a harness bar and covers all DE needs. If you plan to race the cab, this brace will not accept a x-brace due to differences in mounts - thanks to Flash for pointing this out.

As for original purchase, it was long time ago and perhaps my fault for not explaining the order better. To be clear, I was neither charged nor shipped the harness bar, which I only discovered on delivery - bummer because I got the tube-based camera mount and expected both items. The fabricator kindly apologized and offered to make one for me as a back-order, so no problems there. I eventually got the 944 Turbo and cab brace never saw the light of day.

ok - glad to hear you weren't charged for it - sorry for the confusion in the original order - this is the first i heard of it - i can still make a harness bar for whomever ends up with this - i just need an installed center to center measurement - each car is a bit different, and i want to be sure it fits
