Bra questions
#1

I am considering gettting a bra before coming to Hershey. Seems I remember a thread here, or somewhere, where folks had some fit problems, not being able to close hood, etc. Any advice?

So far, I see only Colgan for the 968. Any substantial difference between the regular and "carbon fiber" bras?

Also, is there a source for the "genuine Porsche" bra with crest? Had one for my old 944.

Thanks, Folks!!

underwire provides the best support - i prefer less lace and more showing the curve

ok - seriously

the carbon fiber is a look only - no functional difference (except perhaps to make it a bit tougher to close the hood)

the hood is a bit tougher to close - instead of just dropping it from 16 inches, like you are supposed to, you need to give it a bit of a head start or assistance - NEVER close the hood by pushing on the crest

the colgan does not have the crest - the grain is a bit different too

i believe performance products still carries the one with the crest - this is the one i have

beware of bras - do not get them wet and then leave them on the car - make sure you have a REALLY good coat of wax under there - make sure they fit VERY tight - the least bit of looseness and the flapping will shred your paint (ask me how i know)

while i have the bra, and will keep it, i will only be using it for towing - i am installing a clear bra in the next week or so

hope that helps

Look, bra's are simple, you're getting hung up on the details and it just isn't necessary.

There's nothing to it, just spend some time practicing, and remember not to fumble. You'll surprise yourself how irrelevant your concern is later...

I agree, have many miles on my Colgan Bra and don't even think about it anymore. Of course my paint is not in the immaculate condition that Flash keeps his in. Lots of miles driven in the rain with no problems allowing the Bra to dry out and stay on the car. (I use Meguiars wax - Zymol leaves a white residue if it gets wet under the Bra, but a few hours out in the sun and the white goes away). My bra fits snugly enough that there is no problem with "flapping" in the wind. No scratches from the bra. Fit it after allowing some warm up time in the sun or inside a warm house. After it has been installed allow it to sit in the sun for a few hours and it will form fit to your car. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

mine was very snug - where it hammered my paint was between the fog light and the grille - both sides - probably didn't help that i was driving 150mph with the thing on

however, even at freeway speeds, i have to rewax the front end every time i use it - otherwise there are tell tale marks in the wax

still, it's very helpful at preventing major damage, and a bit of rewaxing is a good trade off against a stone chip

I have the Colgan and like it and have only 2 issues, I wish the upper wheel well

hooks were a little bit longer and i'm not running a license plate so it doesn't snug up in the

middle. as far as paint i'm in the same boat as blackwell and haven't had any problems.

i actaully had a piece made (and with 968 embroidered on it) to fill in the hole for the plate

in retrospect, the front plate would probably have prevented the wiggling that damaged the paint

I have ruined the hood on more than one car using a bra. I would not recommend using any bra regularly

good point - i used to leave the one on my mgb - then i pulled it off to find the paint 2 very different colors, and weird splotches where the bra had been - it was a really good paint job too

Actually,I put mine on for a trip to Colorado and have never taken it back off(completely)-I check it occasionally to see if it is leaving wear marks or discoloration. No problems yet.The only thing it does(especially after long drive is get tight around headlight hole-have to re-adjust to keep from inhibiting retraction functionality. My car is black so actually it looks quite good(at least my opinion).

I've got the one with the crest from Performance Products. I used it on my last trip to Hershey with no problems. I agree with the above about the hooks being longer for the wheel well. A bitch to connect. I don't know if I'll go to the trouble this year.

I have installed a 3M clear bra on my 968. When I had my '69 911, I had a bra that eventually did some damage to the paint. The bra came off and stayed off when my girlfriend asked why I would cover up such a beautiful car?

Larry. Need closeup picture, can't make out the crest you speak of. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
