Fitting 928 GTS brake calipers to non-m030 hubs?
#1

I've spent much time studying all the big brake options for my 968. I've purchased the 322 x 32 discs from 928GTS (didn't want cross-drilled) and am now tossing up between using big red calipers from 993TT or the big black calipers from 928 GTS. The main diff is the big reds use radial bolts and would definitely need an adapter (many have done this), whereas the big blacks use axial bolts (like my non-M030 968).

I would prefer to go with the big blacks (for compatibility with discs) but I can't find info on whether this will work, e.g. will the big black calipers bolt straight on to my non-M030 hubs? if not will it be possible to make an adapter? I'm concerned an axial-to-axial adapter may not be feasible.

Any advise appreciated... thanks

Are you sure about the calipers mounting differently? I seem to recall the big reds and blacks both used the same adaptor to mount to the non-M030 spindles. It is just with the blacks you don't have to swap the crossover tube and bleeder positions on the caliper.

I with Eric on this one you will still need the adaptor on the non M030 hub. Call Jason or Skip at Paragon Products (Banner on right side) they should be able to give you a competitive price on all of the parts needed. Also I would install the 928 Brake Bias to even out the system. They can get this part for you too.

firstly - big blacks and big reds are the SAME caliper - ONLY difference is the colour and reds mount forward of the disc (towards front of car on disc as on a 911) and therefore require the bleed nipple and cross over pipes swapping so that when the calipers are mounted on the rear of the disc (as is required on a 968/944) the bleed nipples are at the top! Big blacks are mounted as standard in the rear postion on the disc so do not need the nipple/cross over pipe changing around.

Big blacks are usually marginally cheaper to buy than reds. These will mount directly onto 030 spindles (the hub fits onto the spindle, your discs then goes over the hub, then your wheel) since they have the same fixing centres as 030 S4 calipers.

Adaptors ARE required for NON-030 spindles. Adaptors are usually universal in that they fit either of the two disc offsets depending which discs you use (993RS, 993TT, 928GTS, 965 3.6)

hope this helps

Something doesn’t add up. Just to be clear I’m choosing between following calipers:

993 351 425 10 / 993 351 426 10 (I think these are big reds)

928 351 423 03 / 928 35 1 424 03 (I think these are big blacks)

Based on the graphics in PET (I will try to attach PDF) these calipers are quite different, one bolts to hub axially the other radially.

Your part numbers look right but I bet the picture in PET is not accurate. They probably just reused the brake part picture from another 928 (?).

The diagram also shows slotted rotors which is not right. I wouldn't trust the diagram.

I think that must be the problem. I have the 928 GTS discs already and they are not slotted, despite the PET graphic. Hmmm, can I trust PET? Now I wonder how often there are errors in it?

So, the fact is both big reds and big blacks are the same and bolted radially.

thanks all...!
