as everyone predicted, i had 10 minutes to spare, so i of course started thinking about a new project - ok - truth be told, i've talked about this one before, but am now getting into it a bit farther
what i am thinking about is a 2 piece rotor kit, that uses the OEM caipers
the reasons are simple:
1. cost - the bigger calipers are too expensive for what i want for this car, and way more brake than i need anyway - besides, adding them to the front only is a real problem in brake balance, and nobody is really offering anything for the rear, and certainly not cheaply
2. larger rotors mean more weight unless you go with aluminum hats
3. larger calipers means a lot more weight
with the extra 6lbs plus per corner, exactly where i don't want or need it, i started looking at options - by going to a 2 piece rotor, even factoring in the adaptor blocks, i still stand to lose a couple of pounds per corner this was attractive to me - running a standard size rotor is out, due to the lack or room for the hardware - but, i could offset the caliper a bit, and gain mechanical advantage in the process, without adding more than a few ounces - this was sounding good - more brakes - less weight - inexpensive - cool!
i found hats - one down
the adaptor block design is sketched out - two down
now, the rotors - i need to find rotors that bolt up to the hats, but aren't so huge that they weight a ton - here's where you guys com in - does anybody have the specs for the different porsche rotors that are from aluminum hat designs? there must be more than just the 911 turbo
