I remember those Chrysler Cordoba ads - the "Corinthian leather" line will forever live in advertising infamy. But to be honest, and sling arrows my way if you must, but I wouldn't exactly call it an ugly car. Very dated, yes, but I've seen much worse. A total piece of crap mechanically, though.

Sad how that goes... I saw a hilarious list several years ago of items as seen through the eyes of the entering class of college freshman, including things like, "Vietnam is as mired in ancient history as WWI and WWII." My favorite one was "Michael Jackson has always been white." I wish I could remember more... must be getting old

Hey ! I once had a Buick Regal with velour seats and the landau top ( was that thing named after Martin Landau ?! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/unsure.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> ) so don't you guys trash the Cordoba <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/dry.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> , I think those two cars were actually twins separated at birth.. although I can almost hear "Ricardo Montalban" ask the famous comparison question: " Qual es mas macho .. Chrysler Cordoba o Buick Regal ? " Ref. classic SNL skits for those of you too young to get this one.. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Right, back to great looking cars <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/cool.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> ; given how DB-oriented I am one would think the Vantage would have been right up there on my list, but when they first came out I thought it looked too small, too short, a failed DB9 wannabe... just unimpressive for some reason. That's no longer the case - this is a pic taken at Frankfurt's airport just over a month ago when I returned from Spain ; standing next to this Vantage S and examining it from every angle left me in awe of it's beauty. Heck I wanted to drive it out of that spot for a test run around the corridors ( they're certainly long enough at that terminal to design an entire F1 track inside <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> ) but airport security is so inflexible nowadays.. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I've always liked smaller cars (witness my affection for the Dino and the Mercedes SLK), so I personally prefer the Vantage to the larger Astons. All of them are gorgeous, though.

The Vantage actually looks fairly close in overall size to the 968 IMO, at least at first glance.. that may be deceiving though so I'll look up the dimensions to satisfy my curiosity <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/blink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I think you're right... I believe the Vantage is in the 170-180" range, right where the 968 is. But of course the 968 is a quasi-4-seater.

Saw a brand new GT3 RS on the 91 yesterday. Wow. Now THAT looks like the ultimate driving machine.

This GT3RS photo is way too coincidental to let the story slide, even though it will take the post OT, somewhat. But first, in line with the beautiful cars theme, I've never been a 911 body style fan ( they all look like upside down bathtubs to me, even though the 993 is not bad as things go, but I do like the lines of the GT 2 and GT3 models, EXCEPT this gt3RS coloring scheme and that abominable rear "wing on stilts" thing - very tacky, IMHO.. but whatever..

So while driving home on 280 yesterday ( a sweeping highway with four lanes , and at some points five lanes in each direction ) with traffic well spaced and moving at the typical 70-75mph, in the far left hand lane there's a GT3RS, in the exact clor combo as the one in the bombfactory photo, going at maybe a steady 75-80 speed and a BMW X 5 suv, just dogging it behind , tailgating at no more than a couple of car lenghts - not sure what the bozo was trying to do or thinking but it seemed he probably wanted to see the Porsche speed up.. I hope he wasn't delusional enough to think he can keep up with it <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> Well he got his wish ; as the traffic ahead cleared up a bit , the X5 dude speeds up and tries to pass the GT3 on the right. So the GT driver decided to "humor" the BMW and stepped on it. The best way I can illustrate the visual aspect of that moment is this: it looked as if suddenly the BMW driver threw his car into reverse and sped up backwards , or as if two giant rubber bands slung the cars in opposite directions. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/ohmy.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> And that was from a rolling 90mph, maybe 100mph at that point. Wow, the GT3 RS has some kick ! Yup, must be a blast to drive. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/cool.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Ha - I would LOVE to see a car like that open it up on a clear patch of freeway. It's kind of ironic that here in socal there's perhaps the largest concentration of supercars in the world, but practically no place to use them to even a fraction of their potential.



I've never been a super 911 fan either. My favorite Porsche is the 928. It's just so awesomely retro-futuristic. And it's the one I fit in the best - I'm 6'4". Unfortunately, my car-repair budget is nowhere near 928-worthy. I think once my suspension is dialed in, my 968 will be my new favorite Porsche!

Not only is the GT3 RS fun to drive, the sound the thing makes when you get up over 5000 rpm is ungodly. And from the drivers seat it is very LOUD. It is not a relaxing car to drive. IT requires your undivided attention.



Back OT, I think one of the reasons that I like the 968s looks is that it does remind me of the Cobra Daytona Coupe and the Ferrari 250 GTO. I think the new Audi R8 Cabrio is a beautiful looking car.

A little off topic, but as much as I love ogling beautiful and amazing cars, I'm not sure I'd be all that thrilled about actually owning one of the true exotics. Many, if not most, of the cars on our collective list are classics whose driving characteristics pale in comparison to many modern family sedans, and many of the newer ones are so ostentatious that I'm not sure I'd really enjoy tooling around in many of them, either. And I definitely wouldn't want a car to just drool over sitting in a garage. As I've said many times, I'd be a truly happy man if I had a dedicated track car (or preferably two - one to abide by class rules to race competitively, and one no-holds-barred beast for "non-competitive" track days). If I had that, I'd be happy to live out my days in a 968 (or even a bondo-plagued '86 Chevy Corsica <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> ) for street use.
