968 value in inividual parts ?
#1

I can't imagine anything but a customized program synched with a Porsche parts database that could come up with the answer to this, but I wonder if you add the cost ( using the dealer selling price as a basis ) of every single component that makes up our car, purchased one by one, what the total cost might be.. ?

Was listening to a local news blurb which said the selling price of parts making up an entire car

( was a new Chevy I think ) would easily surpass $ 10 million. Ok, I could understand $ 1 mil. but $ 10 ?! So would our 968 given the price of Porsche parts be double or triple that figure ?

Clearly nothing else to think about this long Holiday weekend, so just pondering about nonsense stuff..

I remember someone did this years ago on a Chevy or some other GM car, and I think the total came to about 3X the selling price of the car, which isn't really all that shocking. I'm sure it would be MUCH higher for a 968.

Only 3 x the selling price of the car would be very reasonable but it's possible they might have been referring to the separate cost of "integrated" components of the car - e.g , buying the engine as one unit, the entire transmission, the total body shell , etc.. However, I would think if you take everything from a bolt, to a relay, to a piston, or a rod, or a gasket, to a maf, to a hose , a manifold, to any given separate body panel, a muffler, to a glove compartment cover, the dashboard, to a vent knob, a carpet fastner, essentially every single replacement item which can be purchased individually ( which is what these guys were talking about ) and then add all of them at the dealer listed price , $ 1 mil or more seems pretty easily attainable, IMO. Still not sure about the $ 10 mil figure, but maybe with a Porsche or a Ferrari, or a BMW, Rolls, and so forth that's not entirely out of the realm of possibility. Silly concept of course because it has no relevance in reality, but just a point of interest

$10 million seems like the part cost and the labor to install it. [Image: excl.gif]

having replaced quite a bit of the car, and hit over $100k, i can see it easily going to $250k

In that case, I'm willing to let my parts car go, which is still mostly intact, to the first one who sends me 50K! C'mon, that's less than half price!

yeah, but you probably would have put an additional 200k into the 355, and then your post on 355Forums.com would read: - " had i known i was going to get in this deep, i would have gone with a XYZ ( insert next level up car here )

and then soon enough your post on XYZForums .com would read....
