968 starting problem
#1

Hello !

I am new on this forum, my name is Jan and I live in Holland, I am the proud owner since 3 days of a 1992 968 automatic, i bought it in Germany, it has been driven since new in Japan !, it lookes very fine, has low mileage. One thing which is not yet in order is the starter engine, it cranks for to slow, the battery is checked and found okay. Monday i go for duthc register and thereafter it goes to the workshop ( it has been there ofcourse already but the thing concerning the starter engine is not figured out yet ) Thanks in advance for valuable input.

could easily be a bad ground, or bad cables - they are known to give these cars grief

also, there is something that has come to be known as "gummy starter syndrome" - basically the shaft, bearing and gear of the starter get gummed up - disassembling and cleaning them seems to help, at least for a while

there is also a bushing in the bell housing that the end of the starter shaft goes into - if that is worn, the starter wil not engage properly, and you could get resistance

hope that helps

Hi Jan,

Welcome to the forum! You will see there are quite a few dutch people on here....I think at least 4. I had a slow spinning starter motor as well and ended up getting it refurbished for 185 Euro. It now works perfectly.

Where in the Netherlands do you live?

Regards,
Johann

Maybe you can put a coast run together. Looks like some interesting roads along the N57. If you can find a winery I'll bet a contingent from California would show up.

We need pictures Jan!
