Cooling fans won't shut off
#1

Yesterday, my cooling fans decided to keep running. Came out of a music lesson,

to hear the stillness of the afternoon was being disturbed by the whirr of my cooling fans, which had been running for about an hour.

It being Halloween, I think maybe a gremlin recognized my car as a target of opportunity.

Right now, I have troubleshooted the relay, which does not seem to be the problem. I have a spare, which when swapped, did not stop the fans. The fans did shut down while the relay was momentarily out. Searched 968forums, but

could not find a thread on this specific topic.

That's as far as I have gotten. The car sits outside my school, with the relay on the passenger seat. Anyone have the answer to this one?? Thanks for the help.

I think a lot of us have been there. New thermo switch in the upper radiator will take care of it.

^^^^ Agreed, the same thing happened to my 924 and the switch was the problem.

If it's not the 3 pin switch, it'll be the fan relay. When the rad fan on my 968 wouldn't switch off, I changed the switch, but the fan still stayed on. Then I changed the relay, and all was okay again! Shame the relay costs nearly 6x as much as the switch!

Sometimes the relay can be fixed by taking it apart and fixing broken solder joints, or sometimes just giving it a good whack works.
