I looked at fuse #1 as it looks like it handles duty on this but it is good. The key does not open the trunk as it is electrically activated lock. Anybody have knowledge of something I missed? Using the emergency wire pull is getting old.

There is only the footwell switch that I know of.

Is the key actually compressing the button on the microswitch? I have read about the plastic getting old and warped (it would fit in perfectly in this forum!) and not engaging the switch. There was one member on here years ago that fixed it with a piece of tape.

I think its a real pain to get to the micro switch, and as above the foot well switch is in the bottom of the A pillar.
Am i also correct in thinking that the boot release will not work with the roof down and the ignition off, to stop you getting you boot emptied when you park up with the roof down

That is correct, key must be in #2 position (at least).

Weird,I don't remember ever having to turn the key to get in the trunk. I'm going to feel pretty stupid if I go turn it and the trunk works. Still the key should work the release with no ignition. I don't have the top down, but it is not latched or even pushed down all the way so I guess that could do something. Time for an experiment, thanks.

My cab will unlock the trunk using the key at any time. Ignition does not matter, nor does the position of the top. I never use the switch in the foot well so I have no idea what safeguards are in place for that control, but as far as the key in the rear switch is concerned, it works all the time.
If the switch in the foot well works, but the key in the rear does not, I would check the micro-switch trigger. As I mentioned, that has been a failure prone part.

OK here goes...I must be stupid. I don't remember ever having to have my key in the accessory position before, but when I did the switch opened the trunk.

Quote:I would think that on a cab the trunk footwell switch would be disabled so no one can open the trunk without the key present, ignition on at least accessory position, esp with the top down.
The coupe doesn't have that design, the footwell switch will open the trunk without the key in the ignition. So if you leave the window down, someone can pop the trunk. But, then again, the car's not secure with the window down anyway.
The rear key lock always needs to have the key inserted and turned to activate the latch.
Right, in a cab, the ignition key needs to be on, and in position #2 (accessories) in order to use the footwell trunk latch.
Obviously, you need to put the key into the keyhole below the trunk lid to open it manually.
