Wiring Diagrams
#1

I need to trace a fault and I'm a bit lost with some of the notation on the wiring diagrams. I've asked this on some other forums but got no response.

In particular (I'm looking at sheet four for my questions but the questions apply generally):

What are the numbers (eg A8 ) in hexagons? The key says 'Welding Point Connection with Field Indication' which helps not one jot.

What are the numbers (eg E25) in rectangles? The key says 'Connection with Field Data' which I take it means some sort of plug connection. But 'With Field Data'? And what are the numbers telling you?

Occasionally the wire goes to a big block of these numbers. What's happening here?

There are numbers (eg 309) in squares too. The key says 'Connecting Point' - fair enough - but again what are the numbers telling you?

This was all a lot easier in the Haynes manual for my VW beetle - 1 page iirc <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Porsche schematics are a bear for me to read and I can't help much but what I can is below:

This is giving the location on either this drawing or another page of the same drawing where this connection/wire goes to. Look at the grid letters and numbers on the outter edges of the drawing to see what I'm talking about.

If you have a complete set of the diagrams - there's a legend for all the symbols either at the begining or end of the section.

Generally when you see "H8" or other alpha-numeric combo, it's a grid location which defines the continuation of the circuit. This is typical with any blueprint that has the letters and number around the border The shape of the icon defines the type of connection or if it's continued on another page.
