Windshield Crack
#1

So... I tried finding the post where someone said the part number was listed. I have a 94 coupe that needs its windshield replaced. I've been told I can get new one for 950. Plus installation. This is just a tad too much for me. Does anyone have the year/model of the 944 windshield that will fit? Everyone also keeps telling me the 944 windshield wont fit. Supposedly the 968 one is 3 inches longer in one direction. I have 2 3" cracks at the moment. What do I need to make the 944 windshield fit?

Thanks!

do a search, there is a thread on this. I had mine replaced and posted on it. There are no more 968 windshields being made, the 944 windshields fit with no modification needed, but it has to be for an 87 on. You will likely only be able to find one with an antenna, which is no big deal (this is actually a good way to tell if a 968 windshield has been replaced since they didn't come with antenna's in the windshields.

You can get them from DC automotive for around $250 and install is about $200 or less. If you go to DCauto, they have a parts diagram with the part number. If you are in or near NJ, PM and I will give you someone who can install it for you. I also have a place in PA that can get them for you for pick-up for a similar price. Safelite won't do it unless you bring the car to them, they might do it for $100 if they will evem touch it. Most people when they hear porsche and windshield run.

you won't have to pay anywhere near $900 for this, those are retail directly from Porsche.

You can also check e-bay.

IIRC, 968 cabs have the antenna in the windshield, as there's no place for the "bee stinger" otherwise.

I just went though all that, couldn't find the OEM glass (as I expected) so the insurance company actually ordered a new 1,100.00 windshield from Porsche - who am I to argue for 200.00? I know it will have the 944 antenna but it's better than the all the rock chips. Interesting note on windshield research - the OEM manufacturer Sekurit makes their windshields softer than all the other companies and that's why they pit so quickly. The rational is that they will withstand a substantial hit without cracking. Mine lasted 18 years but looks like tiny mine field when the sun shines.

Last time I checked, windshields without antenna we're very common. They wanted to put one in my 951, cause it was cheaper. Safelite will probably screw something up.......I'll never use them again.

Thanks for the help guys. I found a guy who can replace mine with a 91 944 window for $350 plus install I believe it was. I didn't ask if it had an antenna in it though, but beggars cant be choosers. I found the thread with the part numbers and will need to verify which it is.

I still had the original Sekurit window in there. So that lasted 17 years and can't say I really noticed any pitting.

oof - that's a lot for a used windshield - my brand new one was not much more than that

regarding pitting, i replaced my windshield about 6 years ago and was stunned at how much of a difference there was with the new one - then, and now with this one with only 6 years and 25k miles on it

I got a new, not Sekurit, 944 windshield installed for $320. The fit is pretty good but I can still tell its not the same. I doubt anyone else can. I got the one without an antenna in it and the same tint at the top.

Just got my windshield replaced on Monday.

Part # 944-541-011-10 (I think this is correct for the last 2 digits) for a green shaded tint.

Was told by the P dealer parts dep't that my only option for OEM new was with an antenna.

The glass cost was $791, but you also need the moulding strip that goes around the glass at $45

My old moulding strip came apart while pulling it out, but luckily the guy doing the job was familiar with the task and had a new moulding ready to go.

AMAZING difference between a 19 yr old piece of sandblasted glass and the new one!

If anyone needs a recommendation for a good installer near Westchester PA, call Anthony Volk.

He came to my house with the glass (most others I called wanted me to come to them) and has done a lot of 944 and 968 windshields before. He recommended letting the car sit for a day or two for the adhesive to dry fully.

The local P dealer uses him for their glass jobs.

My cost was only my $500 comprehensive deductible.

I know you can get the parts a lot cheaper from Sunset.

Anthony highly recommended going with OEM glass, and my insurance agreed to pay after I told them that the installer had experienced fittment issues with after market. My fit seems perfect.
