OEM windshield glass being imported - coupes and cabs alike
#1

Just came across this thread on Pelican - there's a company thats going to import a small batch of OEM Sekurit glass for very reasonable prices - for the first time in a long time if you want a non-antenna windshield for your coupe, you can get one! Don't know the people so can't vouch for them, but it looks like a few people on that thread do. They happen to be local to me (which would be cool if I needed a windshield, but I don't).

Here's the thread:

they said they are importing sekurit. that's the same as through sunset. those windshields have the antenna.

the price is not far off from sunset, but you might save a few bucks, if it's the one you want.

they do not specify which tint, or no tint, they are importing. there were a few from which to choose.

frankly, i see no reason to go to a new vendor, unless you are saving on shipping or something, and also trust them to pick up the tab when it gets broken in transport. proximity may play a role in that decision.

personally, i'll stick with sunset, as i trust them, and have had a great experience with them on windshields in the past.

They said in the post that they are importing the antenna and non-antenna varieties...and they specified that it would be the green tint at the top. I got my windshield replaced when the car was repainted and the cost was ~$1300 for the windshield because only the OEM ones were available through Porsche - they weren't able to source an aftermarket one. Luckily, nothing out of my pocket - MA insurance has no-deductible glass.

OEM through sunset imports is very close to their pricing. each dealership is an independent franchise, and can charge whatever they want. sunset just offers the best pricing of the bunch.

as of the last conversation i had with sunset about these (about 2 months ago) all tint types were still available. one model had to come from germany though. i just can't remember which one. again though, shipping can easily play a large part in this. for me, it is less expensive to order it from sunset. between shipping cost and sales tax, i do better by ordering from sunset. on the other coast, it may not be the case.

as for the antenna, i think they are going to be disappointed. the last time i checked, it had the antenna in it, even though the hardtop never had one. it's not like they used a cab windshield either. the cab unit is 60mm shorter in height than the hardtop. the antenna is about 25mm from the top. so is the one for the hardtop. sekurit went out of their way to make it wrong. if they come in without it, it will be the first i've heard of the correction.
