Break-in attempt and warped lock
#1

Hello,

Someone tried to break in my car.  They didn't succeed, but the area around the lock is warped now (little blurry pictures but you can see the outer layer's deformation below).  Is this at risk for water getting in and it rusting?  Do you think I can it can be fixed without replacing the whole lock?  The key goes in and it works, but it's not as smooth as it used to be.

/D

That sucks! Hopefully they didn't do any more damage.

The outer (black) trim around the key entrance is available but the bent metal is part of the lock cylinder itself. Just keep a squirt of WD40 in there to ward off water problems. I would go with some new handle rubber soon if you are worried about leaks.

Sorry for your luck .

Part number 944-537-612-00 for the left door. A dealer could tell you cost and availability. Maybe held in with adheasive, best I can tell from PET drawing.

Doesn't look like you have to remove the handle.

Nice to know car thieves are still interested in our cars :-)

Still available, roughly $15, it would be chrome, not painted black like yours, those must have been painted at some point.

Thanks for the tips guys!  It's actually not black, that's just crappy flash photography. Smile  When I found my baby in the parking garage like this I was so livid, I couldn't hold the camera steady.

@Ryan, you're right.  I have those handle gaskets but failed trying to replace them because it seemed like I had to take the entire interior door panel apart. Sad

Okay, so if that's the lock cylinder itself this is going to get expensive. Sad

@langley968 Sadly, yes.  This was a terrible weekend.  The same day I came back to my vintage bicycle and found someone stole the entire back wheel.  Really bad karma right now.

There are folks that say heating the rubber surround gasket up will get it pliable enough to slip over the handle for installation. I ended up cutting mine at the bottom so I could avoid removing handle. You can't even tell it was cut.
